Our mother was admitted on Wednesday 20 August. During her stay, she had to be treated on 3 halls ( levels) and this was our experience from beginning to start :
Started off in basement level, hall N. This level, all it's nurses, carers, cleaners were excellent. They were passionate, helpful, friendly, and competent. They, on many accasions went out of their way. In particular Mr Radebele and Rachel. Angels in that ward. During this time my mom was still very shocked, nervous, afraid, anxious - but they cared for her so well and with compassion.
Then, moved to ICU my mom was in ward S. On arrival we had one terrible, extremely unprofessional experience from one of the nurses. My mom asked, out of fear : how long will I have to be here in ICU, and the nurse laughed at her and responded : a very long time. Totally unacceptable. The overall experience here was neutral, efficient, nothing to complain about, expect that rude, unprofessional and bash nurse.
Then our mother was moved to ward E. Bed 27. This ward should not be called a ward in a hospital. Utter lazy, complacent, rude, ignorant people working in this ward. All of them. Day and night shift. Can clearly see the lack of management here. My mom has no confidence to ring a bell, they don't wash my mom, my sister's have been up and down the halls many days following up and asking for my mother catheter to be removed after doctor said it should be, up and down looking for people to wash my mom as she is not allowed to bath as yet, up and down constantly running behind the staff to ask the most basic things and they are nowhere to be seen.
My one sister spoke to manager there, not interested to help. Addressed the 2 day non bathing issues with 2 nurses or carers, where the one literally turned her back on my sister and walked away.
Then, to top all of this, the night shift team went as a group into my mom's room and confronted her about hearing of our complaints and wanted to know why we did this. Talk about intimidating a 70 year old traumatized and extremely sick patient!!!!!
The physio on my mom's case is amazing. Dr Pienaar is legit. Dr Ashmal. Wow. Ward N - driven by love for people as Jesus loves people. Can see the management and leadership on this ward.
That ward E and ALL its nurses is a disgrace for your establishment.
I have names, dates, info not able to share on this review, but can share all detailed info on request.
I am aware that other people in the hospital, and people I know in Bfn are familiar with the poor performance in ward E. So it's not only us. I am saddened that my mother had to end up...
