Addendum July 2025: The business reached out to me in the summer of 2024 to see if I still wanted the order. After a series of emails over the next year, my sword finally came almost two years after the initial order.
It is beautifully made and feels well in hand. I asked them to sharpen it as well. I'm glad that I didn't give up on it. Hopefully, my experience is atypical and that they overcame their operational issues and process orders more quickly now. I updated my review to 4 stars.
Original Post 2024. Buyer beware. I visited the shop in August 2023, had a great conversation with the friendly person working there and placed an order for a sword. Initially was told that it would take 3-4 months. Over the next year, I contacted them few times via email and initially would get a quick response. First they told me they changing their manufacturing and it would be delayed by couple months. I last heard from them in February when they told me they were making the swords right then and it would be about 4 weeks. I have tried to contact them three times since end of June and have not even received a reply. Their website shows the item I wanted in stock. At least I didn't prepay but it's a shame as it seemed like a legitimate business and a cool product. I have been hesitant to leave a negative review but then I noticed that I am not the only one who has had issues lately and wanted people to be aware. I will update this review if I ever hear...
Read moreOur family had the pleasure of visiting the Mariano Zamorano Swords Factory just before the first weekend of January 2024, and it was an enriching experience for all of us. The factory offers a unique glimpse into the traditional art of sword-making, which captivated both the adults and the kids in our group.
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the knowledgeable staff who provided us with an informative tour. We were fascinated by the intricate process of crafting swords, from forging the blades to the final touches. The artisans’ passion and dedication to their craft were truly inspiring.
The factory itself is well-maintained and offers a blend of historical charm and modern amenities. We appreciated the detailed explanations and the opportunity to see the craftsmen at work. The kids were particularly thrilled to learn about the history of swords and even got to hold some replicas.
The location is easy to find and conveniently situated, making it a great addition to our itinerary. We also enjoyed browsing the on-site shop, where we found some beautiful souvenirs to take home.
Overall, our visit to Mariano Zamorano Swords Factory was a highlight of our trip. We highly recommend it to anyone interested in history, craftsmanship, or simply looking for a unique family outing. We left with a deeper appreciation for the art of sword-making and some...
Read moreThis is one of the very last places in Toledo to buy a sword made by hand. Despite Toledo paradoxically being famous for its swords, with sword displays in gift shops on every corner, the factory-made swords are driving the craftsmen extinct. But this place is so friendly and warm, knowledgeable and personable, that I cannot imagine buying a sword anywhere else.
My fiancée and I are adopting a Spanish wedding tradition where a sword is used to ceremonially cut the first slice of the cake. Santiago understood this tradition and even offered to have Julio remove the lacquer from the sword on the spot so it would not ruin the taste of the cake. What service!
Shipping cost 104 euros back to the USA-cheaper than it would have cost me to fly an extra bag home. I recommend going that route and avoiding the need to haul a very large nicely-packed box all over the streets.
The in-store selection is limited but they seemed to have about one of every basic style you might want. They take custom orders and have an online catalog I would recommend...
