The temple worships Mazu, sometimes was called Sea Goddess by the western media, as main Goddess, and it is one of the earliest Taiwanese temples which worship Mazu because of early immigrants from China to Taiwan.
The temple was built in 1811, and it went through 6 times of additions and partial rebuilt.
Because it is located in small lane or alley of the Wanhwa or Banga district, the temple is not famous or popular for the tourists who generally visit Lungshan (Dragon Mountain) Temple. The temple relies on local residents or believers for funding, when it does not have corporate sponsor either.
The temple is one of the temples, in Taiwan, which allows visitors to take photos in short distance in front of the main deity, when most of the Taiwanese temples disallow photo taking in short distance (by setting up wood barriers) of the main God or goddess, although they generally allow photo taking inside main worship hall.
Because temple seems to rely on limited local residents' donations and fund support, Temple is not well maintained, although it still provides free incenses and other worship supplies to the worshippers.
