華西街台南擔仔麵海鮮餐廳 — Restaurant in Wanhua District

An iconic establishment in Taipei for traditional style seafood. They serve live seafood here (you can even order in the front where they keep the fish/shrimp tanks), in a beautiful and traditionally elegant setting. The dinnerware is exquisite, and the service staff is excellent. The first time I visited this restaurant was more than two decades ago, and I truly believe you get a taste of history here. A very classy restaurant set in what used to be a rougher part of town, you can really feel that there's something special about this place.

The food is prepared with traditional flavors, and is always great. I'd personally recommend their signature dishes like the shrimp spring rolls, gratinated shrimp or baked cabbage casserole.

If you're bringing a foreign guest here, be sure to let the staff know, and they'll add a nice little touch to your meal by putting a little flag from the designated country on your table. It's just one of the small things that makes this place a special...

My wife took me to this restaurant when my sister and niece were visiting Taiwan.

The location is not the greatest as it is part of the red light district BUT the food is FANTASTIC !!! It's kind of different to go into a Chinese restaurant where they serve the food on Wedgewood type of dishes (like tea and plates are all very nice). It has a very Brittish feel to the inside of the restaurant but then they serve Chinese food :)

Patronized the restaurant on 25 Apr 2023. There was no ala-carte menu and you had to go to the live seafood section to choose your preferred way of cooking the dishes. Portions were ridiculously small and not filling at all. Spent 5500 TWD on the 5 dishes shown in the pictures and ended up feeling 50% full.

The taste of the dishes were mediocre at best and definitely did not justify the price tag. Notwithstanding the above, seafood was indeed fresh. Abysmal price performance ratio.
