角 • 攀岩館 - 華山 CORNER Bouldering Gym - Huashan — Local services in Taipei

I visited this gym while visiting Taipei and appreciated the friendly staff and ease of signup. Keep in mind their English isn't very fluent, so it helps to know Chinese.

First with positives, I think the gym overall was quite clean. There was also a foot washing room, which was a really nice plus. The lockers were useful and there was a good amount of seating in the gym. Setting wise, it is quite technical and a little on the harder side, but not anything too sandbagged.

For negatives, I think the gym was quite small and I exhausted most problems within 1-2 hours. The gym wasn't super well ventilated; even though I was there in the winter and there were no more than 5 people in the gym when I was there, it felt mildly stuffy. The gym's max grade was around V6, some which felt much harder than V6s I was used to in the states. I wish they had higher grades as well as more consistent grading at the more advanced...

Very nice and clean bouldering place that seems very new. It is also the only bouldering venue that I know in Taiwan that uses the newer coloring system where one route consists of blocks of identical color instead of just random colors with stripes attached to mark the route (so thanks to this newer system it's easier to find and follow the route). Even though its a bit small, when I was there I didn't have to wait at all, other guests were very respectful and also helped me when I struggled with a route. Staff is very cheerful and professional. I only go bouldering very occasionally so I cannot say much about how challenging the routes would be for experienced people, but it seemed to be catering to all different levels and I felt very comfortable. Amazing gym. Routes are extremely technical, quite similar to the style of setting in Japan. A tiny bit sandbagged, but that’s how I love my indoor gyms. Gyms in the States are often too soft, imo.

Personally; I would ignore all the negative comments with regards to the style of setting. You’d find a lot of them comparing with boutique gyms in North America where they’re just leveraging a lot on span and strength — which is great, but I think a good climber recognises how to leverage those elements + being able to move efficiently in...
