Boston is obviously a historic town, in which most of the shops reside, with quite a few retail parks around the outskirts. Right in the middle of town, you have Pescod Square shopping centre. Since it's not enclosed, and there's no entrance or roof, it doesn't really feel like a shopping centre at all, more like a detour along a stretch of pedestrianised modern high street. Although it all looks a little dated, the open plan style is actually quite nice, it's generally kept clean & tidy, and feels safe. Not seen groups of youths or eastern Europeans loitering as there are in other parts of the town. As for the shops, there's a pretty good and useful selection, including Wilko, The Works, HMV, and many others, including the odd charity shop. The Peacocks srore recently closed down, but in its place already, another clothing store, Blue Inc has opened, so that's good. Sadly, there are still a few empty units which have not been taken, in particular the former Poundland at the far end, which has now relocated up the alleyway into the old town. Parking is quite plentiful and not too expensive. The centre owners need to encourage new businesses, before it goes into decline. The more shops and choice you have, the more customers you're likely to get into this area of town, which is better...
Read moreNice place to shop but very rude Prescod Square office staff. I was visiting the new Sense Charity shop and as I know the staff from the old shop they informed me that one of their valued members of staff passed away last night, devastating for all I’d imagine without having to contend with very rude staff from Precod Square coming in and threatening them. No hello no how you doing but straight into, if you park your van out back again you’ve been warned once next time we will fine you. The prescod staff was female and should be very ashamed of herself, no she didn’t know that a member of staff has died but a prime example of why you ask how people are first in a general greeting than go straight into to what I can only describe as bully boy tactics. After leaving the shop I went round the back to see what all the fuss was about, and in actual fact the back end of the shop is in Prescod Square loading bay so surely they have every right to have a van there rather than put customers at risk by bringing stock in through front door. Hope the owners of Prescod Square are pleased with the way their staff conduct themselves. I’m not often shocked but her attitude shocked me especially after what the staff are...
Read moreA good variety of shops, particularly charity shops. You can find a CEX, a Waterstones, Next, Select, The Works, Greggs, Wilkos, Peacocks, Cafe Nero, Oldrids, Costa, Yours, and many more. Found around that area is a beautiful cathedral, open to public for services, with stained glass windows and gorgeous architecture. Murals and memorials are situated around giving an interesting, colourful and historical touch to the city. Many of the houses have a vintage feel with exposed beams, varying brickwork, and rustic windows whilst the shops maintain a modern theme. Keep your eye out for low water in the river too, you might see some sunken ships. Late at night there are a lot of homeless people on the streets and Boston is known as the crime capital of the UK but daytime hides a lot of that and is a great place for a short stay holiday with more to...
