We had a most unpleasant experience on Feb 14th at The Moon Under Water. We eat there on a fairly regular basis, and decided to partake of their Valentine menu which we knew was £18 for two, including main, pudding and a drink. My husband, accompanied by two of our guests went to the bar with the Valentine menu in hand and the meal order jotted down for the six of us on the back of it and relayed it to a member of staff. It was repeated back to them and they returned to our table. When the meals were served, one veggie lasagne was missing off the order. The waitress apologised and several minutes later she returned with it but said it was still owed for. We could not figure out how the error had occurred since the total paid was £55-30. We presumed that was for 3 x £18 and the extra for the bowl of chips. As we were finishing our main courses the duty manager Andy came to us and without a good evening or hello, he told us we owed for a meal. He became very angry when we showed him the receipt and said we had gone off the menu with the lasagne. I protested that we had not, and I think he was blissfully unaware that Veggie lasagne was actually on the Valentine special menu. He told us that if the meal was not going to be paid for he would not allow our puddings to be served to us which of course had been paid for. He snatched at our friends phone because he thought he was being filmed when in fact our friends phone had bleeped with an incoming text which he needed to check and promptly banned him. He turned on his heel and left us. I spoke with our waitress and suggested she bring five puddings only, and the value of the sixth pudding would more than cover the value of a bowl of chips. She did bring the puddings, including the sixth one which she claimed another customer had paid for!!!! Andy reappeared as we were finishing our drinks and I thought he was coming to apologise but no, he came to ask us to leave as we were on private property. I was astounded at his behaviour, and I said I would call in to see Dawn, the manageress on Saturday to discuss the matter. I sent an email to Wetherspoons CEO which I showed to Dawn so she was fully aware of the details of our disappointing visit. As it was school half term all the following week and she would not be back on duty til Monday 25th Feb she wanted a chance to speak with duty manager Andy and she would get back to me on the matter. I received a response to my email from a Julianne who dismissed my complaint out of hand and said the manageress does not wish us to return. It did not address any of the issues whatsoever. I am appalled with the blatant disregard for our custom and embarrassment caused. I have always found Dawn to be very friendly and obliging and yet feel betrayed by her ignoring our complaints in this way, and not having the courtesy to respond to me. Wetherspoons offer wonderful value for both food and drink and I love that there is no music to compete with over a meal. However there is an unlimited amount of very good restaurants and places to eat in our locality and if Wetherspoons choose to decline our business and treat us in this way so be it. Our Valentine meal was ruined by the uncouth arrogant behaviour of a duty manager who didn’t know when to stop falling out with us and the diners on the table next to ours were clearly offended too by his behaviour and said so as they got...
Read moreThe riverside location was appealing; we were seated and reviewed the menu. Service began well, and our food arrived promptly. However, my wife's breakfast was inadvertently served on my plate and within my burger. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries, while my wife ordered four rashers of bacon, three hash browns, and two slices of toast. The entire order was served on my plate, with the bacon incorporated into my burger. The server attempted to rationalize this error, but it was clearly a mistake. Following an unproductive discussion, I attempted to rectify an error. However, given my wife's cheese allergy and our desire to avoid a hospital visit, the bacon, which had clearly been removed from my burger, was returned. I then requested my receipt and sought clarification from the purported team leader, whose demeanor was unprofessional and confrontational. When I inquired about the freshness of the bacon due to allergy concerns, neither the team leader nor the kitchen staff could provide assurance. After further discussion, they reluctantly agreed to prepare fresh bacon; however, by the time the correction was implemented, our meals were cold and unappetizing, except for two pallid pieces of freshly cooked bacon. We will not be returning; I wouldn't trust the team leader to run a bath....
Read moreVisited here tonight as the hotel I was staying at The White Hart Hotel stopped serving food at 8.30 and thought I would go to ye olde trusty Spoons for some decent fayre at decent prices. On entering I had to locate the barman who was in a corner with a floor serving member of staff in deep conversation so much that he meede to be made aware that I was needing to be served I subsequently ordered a pizza which has always been of a good standard at Weatherspoons (Well fired thin crisply base with a well cooked tomato base and toppings .What I got was a undercooked pizza by kitchen staff who gave the impression that they couldn't care less .and floor staff who walked by my half eaten pizza and never thought to enquire why it was the case but then again I got the feeling that the staff were there for a general "Carry On:rather than striving to keep up the good quality of service that I normally get from Weatherspoon outlets .A decent thin crisply base pizza isn't difficult to get right and I would guess that their is a uniformity of Weatherspoons in how they train and maintain standards across their outlets ; maybe a visit from head...
