Chip Butty — Local services in Coventry

Went here last night for the first time since moving from clovelly Road (round the corner) to Binley. I grew up nearby and used this chippy each week, so passing by last night i thought to pop and get chips and curry sauce. (£3.70)

Came home plated up and the chips looked under cooked, translucent and they felt like oily slugs. Assuming this to be just a few chips Myself and my 3yo started eating. My son said to me dinner these are yucky, and I didn’t disagree the whole portion was undercooked and disgusting. I called the chippy and after debating they asked me to return but with the chips to show them of the poor quality.

Packing them up in a tub I headed back for a refund. On arrival a member of staff came over looked over the chips and said “replace or refund” I said refund, which she threw me a dirty look and went into the till and gave me £2.15p. Fortunately as she went to ‘wash’ my tub I checked my hand and noted the amount was different from what I had paid.

I asked; sorry but this isn’t correct i paid £3.70, the lady returned with a scowl told me, well you complained about the chips, there was nothing wrong with the curry sauce..

Shocked I pointed out the curry sauce is a condiment and comes as part the meal? (What was I meant to do take the pot home and drink it?) throwing me the final dirty look she topped up my refund to the full amount putting it on the table and walked off.

Both the two members of staff visually embarrassed smiled awkwardly, and I left.

What an absolute joke. I wasn’t trying to extort them nor was asking for anything beyond a simple it’s poor quality food can I have my money back and received what I would class as utter rudeness.

If you can avoid here. Dont go, dont line their pockets, let them go out of business. It’s nothing short on what they deserve.

Plenty of chip shops in the area, and you know what they’re a Chinese next door, if your desperate go there instead.

Ordered cod and chips with fried chicken and chips the food was awful. The chicken was turning grey the fish absolutely stunk and then all of the chips were half raw they definitely hadn't been cooked long enough. I'm assuming they're trying to save money by not having the gas up on the oil to a high temperature the result you get is soggy half raw chips terrible. I definitely won't be going back proper wasted my money nearly £25...

Very very disappointed yet again with the quality of chips and pie (today). The chips were warm and you had to chew the pie pastry it was like eating rubber! The service is slow you need to be prepared to wait for 5-10 minutes for your food to be ready irrespective of how many customers are waiting already.
