Rose & Crown — Restaurant in Coventry

First time we have been here. Impressive building, clean toilets etc. Staff were all lovely. Drinks & food are reasonably priced. The wife ordered "Mango chilli chicken skewer I went for the Turf, surf & cluck †. Both dishes looked great. The wife was pleased with hers apart from it was served on an aluminum platter with a sheet of what looked like left over Christmas paper under the food. Naturally the paper became damp/wet & stuck to the food. This was mentioned to the clearing staff who said they were aware of the issue. Please guys stop serving paper with the food (Is this even legal?) My meal looked great, The chicken was a tad dry. Only four small scampi, only 18 chips. I wondered why there is a + on the description. When I got to the steak I could not cut it, seriously it was tougher than old boots, a real shame. I spoke with the staff about it, I was asked what I would like to do to resolve the issue, I requested 1/3 refund. Without hesitation a full refund was given. Will we go...

We've come here many times and always had good food but tonight was very disappointing.

Hubby had one of the challenges (which looked delicious) and I had the American chicken burger that comes with fries, and onion rings and I also had a side of coleslaw.

The fries were cold as were the onion rings (they had gone soft because they were cold)

The chicken burger was overcooked, it was very dry and the coating was incredibly chewy, the coleslaw had way too much mayo in it and stuck to the roof of my mouth because of how much dressing there was .

As I was hungry I ate most of the chicken burger a couple of chips and an onion ring but left the rest so shared some of hubbys meal with him

We visited the Rose and Crown for lunch on Wednesday Sept 7 th. There were 5 of us altogether including a wheelchair user. The door was opened for us by a lovely young man and shown to a table that was convenient for us My son and I had Hunters Chicken which was lovely with lots of onions,peas and chips .My daughter and grandson had curry and my son in law had lots of chicken wings also with peas and chips Everything was great .Very tasty and cooked perfectly.We had desert and soft drinks and a bottle of wine .The total came to around £70. We were served by 2 people,a young man and a young lady who looked after us well. The atmosphere was nice .There is a disabled toilet and flat accessible room .
