Whilst waiting in a long line at the checkout at Tesco Ricoh Arena, Coventry, my partner and I witnessed several transactions, one of which involved a white family paying with cash. They handed over the money, the cashier banked it, handed them their change, and off they went.
Meanwhile, directly in front of us in our queue, a family of colour attempted to pay their bill in the same way by handing over £20 and £10 notes to pay a bill that didn't even total £90.
The cashier immediately called over her "supervisor" and asked her to help check the notes.
My partner and I noticed this and spoke up immediately, to which the two female staff members became immediately defensive and insisted that they checked ALL notes as a matter of store policy. This is not something I have EVER witnessed - even when I - a white man - have paid cash. I have NEVER had my notes checked in this store!!
One staff member, short, slim(ish) with greying hair and dark grey crooked teeth, then asked one of the cusotomers, "Did you mind us doing what we've just done?" The poor woman school he head, oblivious to the fact that a white family had just paid cash and had NOT been subjected to the same insulting and RACIST security check.
We stood up for the customer again, this time to be told by the same staff member that "We're not racist, we have all sorts workin' 'ere."
All sorts?!? Spoken like a true RACIST, white working-class, shop-worker from the Midlands.
Rather than take my grievance seriously, she then had the nerve to start arguing with us in the store before telling us that it was us that "had a chip on our shoulder" and walked off to share the story and laugh with her colleagues. (Which we both witnessed as we carried on with our purchase".
The cashier in question had to them be told TWICE not to THROW our items after scanning them.
If I ever encounter these two disgraceful characters in this store in the future, there will be...

Read moreThank you for the terrible service in the store! If you go to this store, be prepared to be humiliated and they will do it with pleasure! For example, my wife, sister and I went in for holiday shopping for a family celebration, we took a full trolley of products and a couple of bottles of alcohol, at the checkout they asked me for documents, I agree that my wife and I look younger than our years, we provided our documents where it is clearly written that I am 30, my wife is 27 years old. But this turned out to be not enough, they asked for my sister's documents, although I said that I would pay with my card and this is my trolley with groceries. To which I was denied the purchase of alcohol, since my sister physically did not have documents. It turned out and she could only provide a photo. The Mishban manager said that we cannot buy alcohol since we are all together. Okay. We left, but I went in again alone, since I did not have time to visit another store. But the wonderful Mishban manager told all the security guards to come to me and forbid me to buy alcohol. It was very humiliating when they took the basket from my hands and escorted me to the exit. I felt like a criminal, although I did nothing illegal. I am 30 years old, I went into the store alone to buy alcohol for a holiday and had an absolute right to do so and I was shamefully escorted out of the store. I was sober, I behaved adequately, but thanks to the wonderful Tesco for humiliating me with a smile on my face and pleasure. If I had gone in with my child and wanted to buy a bottle of wine, would they not have sold it to me either? Isn't this double standards? The fact that you deceive customers with one price on the price tags and completely different in fact is probably not even worth mentioning. I will never come to your...
