I've been using my local East Brighton Lidl for nearly ten years, but since their latest renovation, the service had deteriorated to worse than a gulag. Last Saturday, in preparation for our Pride BBQ this weekend, I decided to do a larger than normal shop at my local Lidl. I had two basket full and a 4 pack of 1 litre iron brew and a sack of potatoes, so both my hands were full when I got to checkout.
No checkout counters were open! I approached a member of staff who told me to use the self scanning counter, saying they're forcing customers to use the self scanning counter because no one wants to use them! I tried to reason with him saying its not easy to try and scan and pack all the stuff I've got, but he insisted that they will only open a checkout counter if I had a trolley.
Having no choice, I tried to use the self scanning service, but as space is limited on the left side where items MUST be placed after being scanned to ensure you're not bypassing scanning, I had to leave the heavy items (potatoes, iron brew and other meat items etc) on the floor which resulted in the halting the entire scanning process and the dreaded automated voice instructing assistance is required! Imagine the amount of times I had to stop and wait for assistance. Furthermore, the growing queue was watching me, not knowing that I was forced onto the self scanning checkout, eyes blaming me for hijacking one of their fast self scanners for my own selfish deed!
To make matters worse, when I next needed assistance, I turned round and the same staff is now manning one of the normal checkouts serving customers with and WITHOUT trollies whilst I am left standing there in the self scanning checkout with food all over the checkout and round the floor!
I complained to the Manageress who blamed the self scanning checkouts bleeped my product through and she went back to filling the shelf, not acknowledging the fact that her store concocted this ridiculous "forced customer checkout scenario" might be the reason? I contacted their customer service centre by telephone who regurgitate their usual corporate apologies i.e. will pass complain over to area manager, will make sure it does not happen again etc and goodbye. I was not asked for my name and details for a feedback etc. The impression I get is nothing is going to be done about my complain, that's why this review.
Throughout my 10 years association with Lidl from the early days when one could count the number of customers in one hand to the present Lidl attempting to morph into one of it's bigger competitors, I had to complain in total three times, and the response was always the same.
Personally, I've always tried to support the underdog, which was why I had been with Lidl since the hay days, however, it seems Lidl doesnt need any of it's loyal customers anymore, so sad, typical pitfall stupidly misjudged by so many other blinded corporates resting on their pitiful laurels.
Finally, I have decided it's time I go elsewhere to do my...
Read moreI have always liked Lidl but I had a terrible experience today at the kemptown branch . I left in tears of the coldness and harshness of the manager named John Basically I have an unseen disability. I carry a card with me just in case. I was looking for a member of staff at the back of the shop and wrongly went into the warehouse area as I was confused I just wanted to ask someone and show them my badge to access a toilet urgently. I talked to a manager that was there called John and he said that I shouldn't have gone in that area which is fair enough but he just said to speak to someone on the floor. I was going to show him a badge from the just can't wait charity to discreetly ask for help. He couldn't help me but he still had the time to 'warn' a colleague about me so I approached them as I didn't like this attitude I said there used to be a really nice helpful people manager before and off I went. So the woman worker followed me and said that they were nice and that I shouldn't have gone into the warehouse and I explained again that i was looking for a member of staff and I am sorry and she said she was trying to get another manager to escort me out of the shop. My boyfriend had the shopping and was queuing in one of the endless queues and I left him to carry on but he said he felt he wanted to leave anas we needed the shopping I said for him to stay and went out of the shop as I was scared and in tears for the treatment I received plus I had an unfortunate accident as I couldn't access the toilet. I am also contacting the charity which issued the Just can't wait card to let them know of how I have been treated as a criminal when am actually a...
Read moreAlright, listen up, folks. If you're in Brighton and need to do a big shop, make a beeline for Lidl on Arundel Road. This place is like the Mary Poppins of supermarkets – practically perfect in every way.
First off, the store is as clean as your nan's front room. You could eat your dinner off the floor, but please don't – they've got lovely aisles for that. Everything's neatly organised, so even the most directionally challenged among us can find their way around without needing a GPS.
Now, let's talk about the fresh produce section. I’ve seen fewer colours in a rainbow! The fruits and veg are so fresh you'd think they were picked straight from the Garden of Eden. And the bakery? Oh my days. The smell of freshly baked bread hits you like a warm hug from a long-lost friend. If you leave without a croissant, you’re doing it wrong.
The parking situation is a dream come true. No need to perform a 27-point turn or engage in passive-aggressive battles over a space. Plenty of room for everyone, even for those of us who park like we’re auditioning for a role in a demolition derby.
The staff here are absolute gems. Friendly, efficient, and always up for a chat about the weather or the latest episode of whatever's hot on telly. It’s like a little community in there, and they make you feel right at home.
So, there you have it. Lidl on Arundel Road – great prices, brilliant selection, and an all-around cracking shopping experience. Get yourself down there, fill up your trolley, and enjoy...
