Peel Street Car Park — Local services in Great Britain

The Good. It’s a handy car park, well placed for the city and the Barbican Theatre. Well connected to the street such that there is not a huge queue to exit following a concert. Good layout, good surface, clear white lines. We got a space around 6pm for a concert at the Barbican with doors open at 6:30pm. £6.50 for an evening’s parking is a very good deal.

The Bad. Payment machine is slow, so a queue builds up at the machines at busy times.

The Ugly. The RingGo app is awful. Set up or resetting is PIA. It jumps out of the App to a webpage for lots of functions. The app doesn’t seem to be integrated with the car parks own licence plate reader system. While standing in a long line for the payment machine, I asked others in the queue if they’d tried the app. Several said they’d tried and given up. Given the alternative to an app is a long queue for the payment machine that’s pretty damning. The parking schedule offered on the app didn’t match then tariff board in the car park.

I suggest Peel Street Parking ditch RingGo as it is detrimental to the service...

Overcharged for over-night parking. The signage heavily advocates for 'pay on leaving', charges will be calculated on your time of arrival. The tariff sign shows an overnight rate of £4 (and some). I arrived one hour before the night rate was due and left less than one hour after the end of that night rate the next morning. They charged me a 24 hour fee. That was deception. There is an option to pay in advance with RINGO. Perhaps that allows use on incremental fees. I suggest anyone who uses this car park tries it out. I'm very annoyed at being overcharged.

UPDATE after response from owner I have changed this review from 1* to 3* as the owner responded quickly and positively to the issue and provided a refund. They also state that their ticketing algorithm has been updated to stop it happening in future. I am not giving more than 3* as issue should not have occurred and I wasted time in obtaining a refund. What a rip off! I used this car park in the past, always cheaper than anywhere else. Can be full at peak times. Parking in York is simply outrageous and that’s what it is, the visitors know. Not sure what happened in this lovely small car park but what I was charged this morning didn’t match what I thought was on the board, what I expected and I was pretty annoyed and felt scammed. Arrived at 6.50am and paid at the machine at 8.08am. I had a small job in a nearby location. Ok, I went over an hour - specifically 1hr 20mins so meaning under two hours should be £5, right? (Although I did hope to fit under an hour.)

But no, the arrival before 7.30am is still charged an evening charge £3.50 plus on top of that 1hr for £3. So £6.50 for an hour and 20mins is correct. Fantastic! The lady next to me paid £16 for 24hrs. I felt extremely overcharged. Beware of things like this. It is as it is and it is all on the...
