The Phoenix Inn — Restaurant in England

A wonderful pub with classic pub atmosphere. Some what tucked away making it a bit hard to find but once you do you are definitely rewarded with an absolute gem of a pub.

Staff are friendly and inviting making you feel welcomed and like you have been going there for year. Other pubs have taken the commercial generic route but this pub stands on its own as being an authentic and safe place to have a pint with your mates, or even go on your own and chat with the staff. This I would say is my local pub. Sampling other pubs around York this would definitely be one of favorite pubs to go to.

If you are visiting in York and want a pub that encapsulates York's pub culture this should definitely be at the top of your list.

Oh did I forget to mention they also do a jazz night with a pianist, even tho I have not been to it (it can get quite busy) it sounds like an amazing night out and can't...

We had a recommendation from a couple in The Swan in York to try The Phoenix Inn.. we called in on a Monday afternoon at about 15:30.. this is one of the remaining heritage boozers, there was a lovely open fire in the front bar to greet us on a coolish autumn day. We were made very welcome by the landlord, we chatted a little about the pub, had a lovely beer and left just as he was lighting the candles on each table.. what a lovely ambiance this created! Very old pub with some good old photos of the pub from years gone by... good ale - at a very reasonable price. lots of jazz music advertising - for many other local venues. It appears to be a hub for all things Jazz. There was no music on - it was a Monday night that I visited, but the place was packed with an easygoing local crowd.
