'Poor service and wrongly advertised room.'
// Reply to accomodation: I have never been informed about the windows that CANNOT be opened. I have found out about the issue in #505 only after I have entered the room for the first time in Sep of 2016.
// Update: accommodation did NOT refund £320 that I was charged after one night in a stuffy room (this decision was insisted by 2 staff members)
Totally unprofessional members of staff working at the reception. Staff members were unable to resolve the problem and lied to me by providing false information about the room.
I paid a rent in a full amount and the room #505 description on the website was perfect. I was so excited about IQ Bloomsbury and called members of staff and asked them about the room before booking, since I was unable to travel to London and see the room myself. Members of staff reassured me that the room was the same as in the description on the website.
When it was September 2016 and I was moving in, I opened the door, the first thing I noticed was that I cannot open the windows in the room at all! Staff members asked me to stay at least one night and then to choose whether it is alright or not. Despite of the fact that I wanted to leave straight away and stay a night in the hotel, they still persuaded me to try one night and if I still didn't like it, I would be able to leave on the following day and get my money back. It was the worst night in my life, because there was literally no fresh air in my room at all. There are no conditioners in the room either. And they offered me to leave the door to my room opened. Also, I want to mention that there was someone's black hair in the room - I pointed this out to the members of staff, when they first opened the room and let me explore it myself. It is truly disgusting!
In the morning of the following day, when I was moving out, staff promised to refund everything.
IQ Bloomsbury refunded the rent, but still charged me £320 for staying like an entire week (!), when I stayed only very first night, because the workers asked me to try it out before leaving completely. After my complaint, they told me that they would make a note on the website that certain rooms don't have handles on the windows and cannot be opened. Just like in my case, in the room #505. When I was booking the room there was no information about windows.
It clearly explains how the company provided a wrong description of the room on the website, didn't inform me about it on the phone before moving in. On the day of my arrival, and after finding out about the issue, the members of staff [can provide the names] told me:"You had some bad luck when you were choosing a room." Staff also told me that there were multiple people queueing for the room and I shouldn't complain. Just because others are queueing for the room, which i booked without being informed of the problems it had, does not mean that I am in the wrong - logical fallacy. It becomes obvious why there was a lack of consent from the side of IQ Bloomsbury.
Conclusion: I do not recommend staying in this accommodation. Paying this amount of money per week does not justify living in that room with windows that can't be opened and the door always opened to the corridor. Coming to the country and dealing with the problems on the very first day right after the arrival, caused by the accommodation, lead to stress. IQ Bloomsbury didn't pay for the hotel, that I had to book last minute in London on the day after moving out because of unbearable conditions and just no fresh air in the room, it cannot either pay for all stress I had to deal with, but instead it deducts £320.
I do not regret leaving that accommodation and choosing Chapter Kings Cross instead, with more reasonable pricing and staff members that actually care about their members.
P.S. Be careful when looking at 5-star reviews here, because members of this accommodation told me that there were certain benefits last year, provided by the accommodation, if a resident left a positive review here [I have evidence...
Read moreSituated between Euston and Euston Square stations (and really close to Warren St. and King’s Cross), IQ Bloomsbury has an incredibly convenient location, just a walk from everything you may need. Though there are no gyms in the building, there are at least three or four close by, and Regent’s Park is just a few minutes from the building if you enjoy running outdoors. The rooms are brand new and fully equipped. I have stayed about a week on a room on a ground floor facing the inner garden, and now on the second floor, facing Euston Road. Both rooms were quite big for a student accommodation (having dishwasher, hobs, TV and oven), and with really nice views. Even the one facing the street is quite silent due to their noise-concealing windows. Facilities are also amazing, and their communal areas are modernly furnished. And one of the most helpful things for a student: a Wi-Fi that actually works. Staff is incredibly friendly, willing to help you out whenever you need. Both Robin and Olivia, and all the others members, have keenly assisted me with all by doubts and problems. There are always fun events and meetings going on, which really makes living in an accommodation fun and enjoyable. All these advantages are really worth the price, and I’m incredibly happy to be...
Read more· Great location: 5-min-walk to student centre of UCL; 1-min-walk to Anytime Fitness gym (the built-in gym for this accommodation does not have enough training machines for me); 2-min-walk to Euston Square tube station. · Friendly staff: They're always kind and ready to help (i.e. fixing facilities, printing) and it's nice to chat with them from time to time. · Room type: my room is facing Euston road so I have to wear earplug during bedtime which is okay for me as the window view and sunlight overweigh the disadvantages. To note here, the rooms facing Euston road can be much hotter than other rooms during high temperature period. · Study space: positioned just behind the reception desk. It's open place to take a rest or do some coursework when you don't want to go outside. But, the space is generally quite small, compared to the iQ Hammersmith which I lived for 1 year too. · Activities: Some activities are held in this accommodation (some festival?). Food and drinks are provided for free. · Ubers or taxis: Vehicles are not allowed to stop by the Euston road so I often get in the Ubers on the Euston Square Hotel...
