I'm going to review the features and services within this station and then give my overall review. Starting with:
Platforms - There are 17 platforms in this train station. The platforms are well staffed and generally clean. The underground stations are also located within this station, which is very nice and convenient.
Customer service -Ā The ground floor has multiple help stations and customer supportĀ services to provide assistance with any queries you may have. Maps and guidance packs are also scattered throughout the station and by key areas for those looking for guidance.
Hygiene - This station is kept fairly clean, although it's very old and looks like it's in dire need of refurbishment. There's a toll fee to enter the toilets. Its only 30p, but it's still a huge inconvenience and annoyance, especially when you consider how this is a central station and isn't even high class or kept to a standard where having a toll fee for the toilets would be justified.
Arrival/Departure Boards - There are a large number of arrival/depature boards located within the center of the station - hence the huge crowds around that area. While this is handy for finding out train timetables with ease, it also means that the central part of the station is always packed and heavily congested - which is not ideal.
Size - This station is quite big as it has 17 platforms, but it's not big enough to accommodate the large crowds that it attracts on a daily basis. Im constantly having to squeeze past people on my way to a platform or when leaving the station. The lack of crowd control can be a cause of concern, especially if you're travelling with children as they could easily get lost or hurt in the crowds that storm the platforms during rush hour.
Services/Stores - There are a large number of services located in and outside the station ranging such as coffee shops, food stores, restaurants, beauty stores, cash machine areas, customer lounges, ticket machines, toilets, etc. So yeah, there's a lot.
Seating Areas - Despite its size, there aren't too many seating areas in this station. The upstairs section is reserved for those buying food and eating at the respective stores / restaurants. This results in the mass congestion of people standing by the depature/arrival boards in the centre of the station.
Summary - Overall, I'm not really a fan of London Euston Station. It leaves a bad first impression of London for any first timers who enter the city via railway travel. Plus it doesnt help that there are far better stations throughout London, so you'd think that Euston would have been one of the best if not the best stations in London considering how it's London's central station. But with that being said, it's still a fully functional central station despite its age, looks and the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEverything about Euston Station is depressing. It really needs a Kings X style makeover. I arrived with 30 minutes to spare by accident as I like to get there about 10 minutes before train departs. On this occasion I needed to use WC and discovered I had to pay (nothing new there). Having no money on me I spent ages trying to find an ATM, which was tucked away in a corner. I then had to buy bottle water to break up note. Then I discovered change machine at entrance of WC.
I really wish I hadnāt gone into WCs. There was water all over the floor (trip hazard), toilet paper on cubicle floors and the cubicle lock was so badly fitted you could not lock the door! As it was one of few cubicles with dry floor I had to push my case against door and pray no one pushed door open while I was doing my businessš¤£š¤£š¤£ Some of these problems are down to management and some like pee and paper on floor reflects the poor hygiene standards of users and the cleaning staff. Worst we are expected to pay for these poor facilities.
Then I discovered my train to Birmingham was cancelled. There was no one on the Virgin information stand. So I had to wait in long queue to find out that I should board the next train. So many seats were reserved I had no option than to sit in someone elseās seat stressed that I would be asked to move. Things got hairy when an unplanned stop was announced at Watford. At no point did anyone ask for the seat I was in unlike other people who were forced to move on packed train. Of course no one came to inspect tickets. Richard Branson must be laughing his head off at the mugs forced to enter Euston and take one of his trains, while he chills in a hammock in the Caribbean. Travelling around Britain is expensive and stressful. Facilities are poor and there is an absence of staff to assist when...
Read moreIts a train station - duh not particularly an exciting place!....if you want to muck around with Harry Potter picture opportunity platforms you're at the wrong station, Kings Cross is a 10 min walk up the road Rush hour is unpleasant like most places at rush hour, though not helped by people who day dream along on their mobile phones..... I'd prefer the DfT spend more money improving the trains that are always delayed due to faults, rather than improving the stations, I want to be at a train station for the least amount of time possible....like most people who pay over £4.5k a year for a season ticket.... The station is in need of more ticket machines, like most stations, however travelling out of Euston I'll often hear conductors trying to issue fines to customers who couldn't get a ticket/collect a pre-paid ticket because the machines had too long queues or weren't working, again too busy painting over the cracks trying to make it all look pretty while the cracks...
