Levisons Vintage Clothing — Local services in London

My partner and I (a queer couple) visited Levison’s Vintage Clothing to look at a vintage suit. From the moment we walked in, the man behind the counter gave us a cold, unwelcoming stare. We tried to ignore it, but his behaviour quickly became aggressive and discriminatory.

While my partner was calmly trying on the suit and checking the fit in the mirror, the man snapped: “BE CAREFUL WITH THE SUIT!” There was absolutely no reason for the hostility — my partner was being completely respectful.

When we asked how much the suit cost, the man flat-out refused to tell us. He repeated that it “wasn’t priced yet” and that he wasn’t willing to sell it. He kept barking at us to “put it back where you found it,” while we were still holding it — trying to buy it.

It was painfully obvious we were being targeted because we’re a queer couple. His tone, body language, and refusal to serve us made that very clear.

As if that wasn’t enough, when we walked past the shop again later, he came outside and shouted homophobic abuse at us across the street: “COUPLA PUSSIES!” Loud, aggressive, and completely unprovoked. It was shocking and traumatic.

This wasn’t just bad service — it was outright homophobia and verbal harassment. We left shaken and disgusted.

If you are LGBTQ+ or care about human decency, avoid Levison’s Vintage Clothing. The man running this place is openly prejudiced and hostile. This shop...

I won't usually leave a bad review unless I feel it's necessary and helpful to others - if you are reading this do yourself a favour and STAY CLEAR of this shop!

I popped in recently and instantly felt unwelcome, the owner makes it quite obvious that thinks he's so much cooler than every body else, the perfect example of a pretentious older generation hipster that swapped out his manners for an inflated ego, very belittling and supremely unhelpful when I asked a simple question. Such a shame. Won't be going back again. The surrounding shops are quite the opposite (with much better and cheaper clothes and decent humans)

My visit to Levisons turned out to be probably the best retail experience I’ve ever had. First of all, the owner Michael is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the particular cuts, fabrics and design features of each garment he sells. His range of stock is far more curated, interesting and unique than almost any other vintage store I’ve visited (and I’ve been to probably a hundred around the world). He even ran around the corner to buy me a box of plasters that I needed and I hadn’t even committed to buy anything from him. Wouldn’t let me pay him back for it either, what a guy!
