The location is very handy for what we needed, the entry system was fine and the accommodation itself was easy to find. Upon opening the door, we were welcomed by an extremely dated and musty carpet which set alarm bells ringing. ||Entering room 4, I was pleasantly surprised at how well presented and clean the room was but unfortunately it was all down hill from here. London was absolutely boiling over the weekend and although a cold shower can be nice to cool down, having the option of hot water would have been better. My husband contacted the property only to be advised they’d “try” to send maintenance out to fix the plumbing issue. Naturally, no such maintenance person ever arrived and we were forced to take showers that felt like we were being stabbed with a million tiny knives. ||Whatever, we made do. For some reason, there were lamps by the bed that had no socket to plug into and the hairdryer was broken, not that we’d be able to stand under the ice water long enough to wash our hair.||The beds themselves are hard and uncomfortable, and I like a firm mattress. They are also, unbeknownst to us until we were turning down the bed to check out, infested with bedbugs. My husband noticed a bug on the bed and several different patches of blood which we hope is ours, but if it is, we have made quite a delicious meal for some Shoreditch bedbugs and will have to set light to all of our possessions we brought to this hellhole and possibly our own home if we’ve brought an infestation back with us. ||To top it all off, we had to get a (partial!) refund from Airbnb as the hosts themselves completely ignored us when we reported the bedbugs and at this point I think the bugs might actually be the building management. They’re about as helpful. ||All in all, avoid like the plague. Actually, I’d probably rather have the plague than stay...
Read moreDO NOT GO IN SUMMER. IF EVER. I'll start off with the positives - the location is great, you're right by Brick Lane. However, the downside to that is it's noisy all the time. The place provided earplugs, but if you struggling sleeping, not recommended. The worst part was the HEAT. It was a heatwave when I went. The place said a fan was in the room. It was the tiniest desk fan you've ever seen. An absolute joke. It was almost as hot inside as it was outside. In the end, I abandoned the hotel. With the heat and the noise, no way anyone could get to sleep there. Other reviews mention the noise, which I can attest to. As for the cleanliness (and the bedbugs mention), it looked clean to me, but I didn't stick around long enough to get into the bed. Maybe that was a blessing! Self-check-in was easy enough, although my door kept screaming at me when I tried to leave. As for customer service, big thanks to the woman on the phone who just hung up on me when I called trying to query something. Seriously, she just said "Hello", listened for about ten seconds, then hung up. Every time I called back, a few rings, and she rejected the call. Stellar customer service right there... The price point was just over £200 for two nights. Location considering, and looking at comparable rates for other hotels, I don't know what I expected, and yet I was still...
Read moreMy experience at D8 Shoreditch was incredibly disappointing. From the very start, it wasn’t clear where I needed to go for check-in, and I spent 20 minutes mistakenly trying the wrong location. Once I finally found the check-in area, things only got worse.
The hotel has a lot of stairs, which are not only narrow but also accompanied by a terrible smell. When I reached my room, it was clear that the photos on the website were far from reality. The floorboards creaked with every step, and there were visible strands of hair on the bed—an obvious sign of poor cleaning standards. The room itself had a strong, unpleasant smell of damp, which made staying there even more uncomfortable.
To make matters worse, there was some kind of boiler or electric machine inside the room that made loud banging noises throughout the night, making it nearly impossible to sleep. The bathroom was separate from the room, located down the hall, which required constant back-and-forth trips—something especially inconvenient given the state of the facilities.
Overall, the value for money was shocking. The cleanliness, the state of the facilities, and the lack of comfort left me so dissatisfied that I even considered leaving in the middle of the night to find somewhere else to stay. I cannot recommend this hotel less and hope significant improvements are made for...
