I've now worked with Philippe on two occasions, once to host a special dinner for my partner on his birthday, and another to do some canape style catering for my birthday with a larger group - and Philippe has never failed to impress!
I'll start off by saying that Philippe is incredibly personable, very easy to get along with and readily on-hand to ensure your needs are met. Philippe will put you at ease even when you have set yourself an over-ambitious time scale or if you're feeling the pressure of wanting to get things right (even when working in a perhaps less than adequate kitchen!). This is certainly not his first rodeo and he really is a first-rate professional chef and a great (fun) guy.
I took a bit of a bet on his first menu – it looked interesting: a fusion of Japanese flavours and French cooking techniques. We had a 5 course menu and it was absolutely fantastic. Each dish delivered on flavour and some of the dishes that looked simple were very well balanced and moorish. It was an unusual menu that worked very, very well. He also recommended excellent wine pairings with the meal.
On the second occasion we had a mix of canapes, which also went down a treat with our guests; they were all really impressed with his food and having him there to serve his delicious creations.

Read moreI had Philippe lined up for a few mini dinners to celebrate my husband's 50th. Due to co-vid we could only do two of the seven but I can't wait for the rules change again so we can have him back!
My husband's friends and family are all real foodies, so unbeknown to Philippe, the pressure was really on and he did not disappoint!
His talent and food were insane! Everyone messaged me the next day to say how fantastic it was! One said she is "still thinking about the salmon" and another said "the brioche croissant tasted unreal and the chocolate truffles were to die for". Personally, I loved it all!
From menu plan, (catering for different tastes and diet restrictions) to execution were so professional, perfect and stylish. From the moment he arrived to the moment he left he exuded such calm and charisma; I knew we were safe hands.
He adapted quickly to the new kitchen space and quietly created masterpieces in the kitchen with each meal looking as beautiful and tasting as delicious (if not more) than the one that came before it. Once he had left it was like he had never been, everything clean and neatly packed away... A truly magical experience...
Read moreBefore the confinement started we went to friends for a dinner party in South East London. To my surprise, they had a chef 'Philippe Roth' cooking for us that evening as they wanted to enjoy their evening with all of us. It was such an amazing evening , so relaxed as our hosts only had to take care of the drinks, and the food was absolutely delicious. It was like eating in a private restaurant in the comfort of their home. We had delicious marinated fillets of beef with crunchy salad for starter, wonderfully cooked duck for main and a scrumptious chocolate tart with yummy lemon curd to finish. The portions and presentations of plates were perfect, pity I didn't think of taking pictures! The attention to details, professionalism and care of Philippe towards us was incredible, he really did take care of us very well! Now I want to try the take away menus that he offers where you can be a chef in your own home...am sure the confinement will give me time...
