I rarely ever leave reviews, especially negative ones, but I feel compelled to write this because of how unwelcome our visit to Vintage Café made my friend and I feel. In years of living in London, this was the only time we walked away from a restaurant genuinely upset.
To start on a positive note, the food was excellent. This review is not about the kitchen, but about the service, which was disappointing at best.
We had booked a table for 10:30 am on a Saturday, knowing it would be busy. However, we had to wait and wave several times before a waitress came to take our order. When the food finally came, she first delivered it to the table next to us (a group that had arrived and ordered after us) even though it was the same dishes we had ordered.
We tried to shrug it off, but what followed was more disheartening. The waitress repeatedly went over to check on that table, asking if everything was fine, while we were entirely ignored, despite being seated barely a metre away. We had to wave her down multiple times just to get basics like tap water.
The final straw came when, after I had already paid at the till, she shouted at me, “Have you paid??” only for the cashier to confirm that I had. It was not only embarrassing, but unnecessary.
I would prefer to believe this was not personal or deliberate. But it was impossible not to ignore that the table receiving attentive service was a different demographic, while my friend and I were not. I am never quick to raise such a point, but in this situation, the contrast was stark enough to make us uncomfortable.
I sincerely hope the management takes this feedback constructively, because no customer should be made to feel overlooked,...
Read moreWe’re locals and often walk around Brick Lane, but will be steering clear of Vintage Café Shoreditch after yesterday. It was a windy afternoon and something blew into my partner’s eye — she was in visible pain and just asked to quickly use the toilet to rinse it out. We completely understand cafés not wanting non-customers using their facilities, but this was clearly a genuine situation.
Instead of showing even the smallest bit of empathy, the staff were unbelievably rude — banging on the toilet door while she was trying to deal with something in her eye, and making her feel really unwelcome. She even explained she’d come back and buy a coffee once she could see again, but they couldn’t have cared less.
To make matters worse, because she couldn’t properly rinse it out there and then, it moved around her eye and we ended up having to go to Moorfields Eye Hospital later that day.
It takes no effort to be kind. There are plenty of other cafés nearby that actually show some basic decency — go to one of...
Read moreI recently visited Vintage Cafe with a friend for breakfast, and it was a wonderful experience! The atmosphere was cozy and charming the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a good cup of coffee.
I ordered the healthy breakfast: toasted bread with avocado and poached eggs, accompanied by a fresh salad, and it was absolutely delicious fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked eggs, and beautifully presented. My friend went for the English breakfast, and she couldn’t stop talking about how tasty and satisfying it was.
The coffee was excellent too rich, smooth, and served just right.
Overall, a lovely place with great food, quality coffee, and friendly service. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a great breakfast or...
