Well this was a pleasant surprise. I was concerned we could be waiting constantly for turns on the consoles but NOT AT ALL!! It was busy but there was always availability on something to play and rarely had anyone waiting for a turn behind us. Both my son (8) and I thoroughly enjoyed the range of games available. Started with the historic ones - pong, Chuckie egg, starship, pacman etc... then Goldeneye (my how that has aged 😐)... A bit of Pokémon, mario, karting, a random space shuttle pc game...and then onto the physical section reigniting my memories of Wii Zelda shooting and sports. Enjoyed competing against each other on the Xbox sports too. We were really impressed with the BAFTA section which showcased young designers' games - I especially loved "Unplugged" a puzzle game. All in all, we arrived at 12:30 and didn't leave til 5pm. When we needed a loo break, we spoke to a staff member and got a reentry pass to be allowed straight back in - a must have with young ones! I wouldn't recommend taking younger than maybe 6/7 as there's not really anything for little uns. But my 8 year old thought it was absolutely brilliant. There was LOADS we could play multiplayer together and we had so much fun. Highly recommend and would definitely go back to play more!! (Didn't visit the snack bar as we had our own drinks and snacks - although were too busy gaming anyway! Usual junk food at high museum prices so...
Read moreThree of us spent about 4 hours there today. They have an amazing collection of old and new games and consoles. The place looks amazing, very well designed with a small place to buy some snacks and refreshments from. Feels like a real gaming den. It is also very important to showcase these games and preserve it for the future. I hope this exhibition will stay, maybe even expand in the future. Staff was lovely too, they made sure consoles are all good to go, batteries are charged, chairs are nice and organised so kudos to the team. Sometimes you might need to wait, during busy times would be better to have some sort of timers on the busy machines to make sure everyone can try these legendary games, but it wasn't bad at all. The only thing to consider is to maybe get a few CRT TVs for the very old consoles as unfortunately on the LCD with the weird upscaling they look a lot worse then they used to be, however this is not a critique but a recommendation. I might consider to get an annual pass to visit this place more often and try the rest of this gaming history....
