I booked the 3 course brasserie menu for a group of 14 for my best friend's hen party and it was worth every penny. Cannot recommend highly enough.
The class was brilliant and so much fun. The instructors are interesting, knowledgeable, patient (necessary with a hen party!) and funny. We made our own tagliatelle, filleted our sea bream and made italian meringue for our dessert.
The food was absolutely delicious and there was plenty of it: home made cookies on arrival, mushroom and truffle tagliatelle to start, sea bream with leek puree and crushed potatoes for main and a delicious chocolate and salted caramel dessert.
There was also an abundance of alcohol and they were not stingy with it! We had expected a welcome drink and then perhaps some alcohol with the meal but our glasses were continually topped up throughout the whole event - I'm not sure my glass was ever empty! There was also plenty of choice, from prosecco, wine and beer to a range of soft drinks.
We were also given plenty of time once the cooking was done to enjoy our food and drinks around the table and did not once feel rushed out or pressured to leave, as can be the case in some places. From start to finish it was a joy and such a laugh. Carlos was the perfect host and kept us very well looked after and our drinks constantly topped up (as my head this morning will testify!). Martyn was just lovely – so patient and kind and funny and we learnt loads from him. He was happy to deal with our endless questions and culinary faux pas and then produced the most delicious meal for us at the end. We’ve eaten in some top class restaurants but I can honestly say it was one of the tastiest, most beautifully presented meals we’ve had – every plate was empty and everyone was raving about the food. Timing felt relaxed and just right, not rushed at not too long.
This is our closest friendship group and we have all be celebrating milestones together for 25 years. After endless parties, min-cruises, school discos, Orient Express Trips, city breaks and so on, it’s difficult to come up with something new but our experience at the Underground Cookery School was just that and everyone said it was a truly memorable evening and one of the best...
