As a frequent traveler, I'm always on the lookout for ways to enhance my airport experience, and No.1 Airport Lounge at Birmingham Airport came highly recommended. Eager to discover what this premium lounge had to offer, I ventured in with anticipation.

Terrible experience. We arrived at 12:00 with our flight boarding closing at 15:00. When booking it asks for an estimated time of arrival, turns out this is pointless as they'll then demand that you cannot enter the lounge until that time.

So having paid for 3 hours of access we now haven't been able to access the lounge until 12:30, and will leave early to board our plane. Why ask for an estimated arrival time when what you're actually doing is booking time slots? But then don't notify the booked individuals that they cannot enter until their estimated arrival time? None of our emails or booking information stated anything other than 3 hours of access, nothing about restricting your access time.

Manager was no help, telling us "you've booked this time" - no we haven't. We were asked for an estimated arrival time not asked to book a time slot. If we were asked to book a time slot, obviously we would've booked an exact timeframe.

Check in was convoluted, after entry sat waiting for another 15 minutes to be seated.

Check in individual was no help, just repeated the same pointless lines at us. "You booked this time..." - no we didn't. Your booking process asked us for an estimated arrival time. What don't you understand that estimated doesn't mean exact?

So paid for 3 hours, by the time we were in, seated and we'd left to board we were able to enjoy less than 2.

Food was atrocious, sausage and chopped tomatoes and it was called a stew. Pasta with broccoli, no sauce or anything. Just pasta and broccoli. Potatoes cubes, tomato soup and a chicken stew that was the only thing that was worth eating. Cheese, 1 type, bread and crackers.

Drinks options - 1 lager only, 1 cider only, reasonable selection of spirits. But other than the spirits that we didn't use the drinks options were as abysmal as the whole lounge experience.

Ridiculous noisy, a very small space with as many people crammed in as possible. Easily 75+ people.

The staff overall were friendly, polite and courteous.

Dress code - none existent. Online it clearly states smart, there was sports shorts, tops and trainers galore. Which I am 100% in favour of. But if the dress code is smart casual then people in full workout gear shouldn't be given access. I intentionally dressed accordingly or Iyself would've been in gym attire as it's what I most often wear to travel.

No1 lounges in name only. In service, atmosphere dead bottom of my lounge experience. We booked via AMEX as only opted for this lounge as the one we wanted was fully booked. Luckily we only paid £6 per person instead of the £34, if we'd have paid £34 I'd have been very...
