Only just an underground station as at the line from Newcastle City centre heads out into the open here and consequently there is a fair amount of natural light, which as the platforms face each other makes it a comparatively pleasant place to wait for a train, even if it lacks the character and charm of the original overground station. Generally not that busy except at either end of the school day when it is extremely popular with young commuters. Parking space nearby...
