We hired the upstairs part of the Hancock pub for my stepson's 21st party , from the first contact to booking the room to us all leaving just after 11pm the staff & manager made sure everything was done to perfection , if possible I would give 100/10 to the whole team who run this amazing establishment. The Hancock is a great place to come for a nice drink & food , the staff are friendly & helpful & ready to make sure your time there is the best ever , all the catering is done the kitchen staff & it shows just how good pub food should be , when the food was being served you could see it had been thought out so well & we were all extremely pleased with every aspect of the buffet from presentation to taste . The atmosphere inside is a very relaxed one & the whole place is a credit to all who work there to make it the success it is . I would have no doubts about booking the Hancock again & would recommend it to anyone who asked what it is like , the biggest of thank you's to all the staff there who made it a great night for us all...
Read moreDiscovered this pub today which is right next to the main Newcastle uni libraries. A group of new (mature) students for a quick weekday lunch and the deals they have on food are great. They have a two meals for 7.50 offer on which includes fish and chips, bangers&mash and scampi. They have another offer which a meal for £4 which i opted for choosing a beef mince pie with chips, gravy and peas. I can wholeheartedly recommend this meal - the pastry on the pie was the right thickness and had a lovely consistency - mince and gravy was delicious. My friends had the burger, hunters chicken and pastrami toastie - all were recommended and looked good. I paid £1.71 for a large coke but that was after a 10% student discount was applied.
The vibe of the pub is nice - clean with pool/table football. The vibe is definitely student but not in a bad way - no griminess here though admittedly i didnt get a chance to inspect the ladies room.
Come here for delicious food at great prices and warm chilled (but...
Read moreQuite fond of The Hancock, pretty reliable. Decent interior, large screens, clean and tidy, space is well utilised in terms of tables / seats. Great outdoor area too. Menu has a better variety than most I’d say. Quality of food is what you’d expect from pub grub - lowkey, unpretentious, no bells and whistles, simple and consistent. Sometimes that’s all you need, just a chill, laid back meal with a pint. My go-to is the vegetarian sausage, mash, peas and gravy, with a side of the drunken mushrooms, would also recommend the cheese & jalapeño donuts. My only criticism is that the staff aren’t the friendliest. Really generous happy hours and meal days including Mon-Fri, 5-8pm, £3.25 drinks. Mon-Fri, 12-6pm, meal & soft drink £7.75 (can upgrade to alcoholic drink + £1). I also believe students get a 10% discount, and think you get a complimentary drink if you sign up to their newsletter. Certainly more than most places offer,...
