Giving two stars might seem harsh. I appreciate this free artistic space and the friendly staff, but the art exhibits just don't do anything for me. They don't create any emotional response. Don't get me wrong, I'm not averse to modern art, Banksy has me in fits of laughter and if art can be described as a form of presentation that can generate an emotional response, whatever that might be, then Banksy makes the grade. But I just can't find any meaning or emotional reaction to the current collection of exhibits by Catrin Huber. The Story of Kurt Schwitters life and artistic contributions is interesting, particularly his Merz Barn Wall, but once again, it doesn't do...

University of Newcastle exhibition space and gallery. Hosting regular exhibitions of works that vary in style, size and period. The highlight is often the annual Fine Art degree shows in June and July. Exhibiting a dizzying array of contemporary art from new artists across a range of disciplines. The gallery itself is well set out with small shop, toilets and staff to answer queries. Not a huge space but perfect for an afternoon visit. Home to the internationally significant Merzbarn by Kurt Schwitters, the only permanent exhibit in...

Roy Lichtenstein exhibition was well worth a visit. On the day I went it was pouring with rain so the gallery was very quiet. Plenty room to view the pictures from a distance and get up really close too. The booklets you could pick up to read about the works were excellent. There to pick up and read as you went round. Strangely nobody else did! And remember there are toilets in the basement if needed if the ground floor...
