Seven and One is unlike any other place that I have experienced. This bookshop in Abilene is truly slice of heaven here on earth. It gives the place for all people to seek and find themselves inside of literature while escaping in a quaint shop filled with vibrant life.
As someone who has lived in Abilene for the last decade, finding adult friends can sometimes be more difficult once you are out of the realm of the collegiate world. Seven and One books offers a variety of book clubs and I decided to dive into one that pushed me outside of the normal genres I find myself escaping to. I decided to join the book club that Jenna leads due to building up a customer relationship with her. Hesitation fell just because of not fully knowing the age range of the book club I had joined, or really knowing anyone inside of this book club. We met last night and let me tell you, if you find yourself in a place like I was, nervous to dive in DO IT. Jenna made the environment of the book club a safe place were all can belong. The age range was young adults with a majority of the women being in college. Jenna invited us all into a space where we felt comfortable sharing all of our thoughts of the book as well as making it a fun and warm place to be. We all shared our thoughts of the book, who we envisioned the characters to look like, personal ratings of the books as well as how we analyzed the readings. What I expected to be an hour book club turned into a 2 and a half hour experience in which I was so thankful to be apart. I am so excited to continue to be within this book club with Jenna because the ways in which she is so passionate about the literature and the community she crafts through our little niche inside of...
Read moreSeven and One has the sweetest most understanding staff. I recently got back into reading and like to treat myself to fancy versions of books as a shelf trophy. A few weeks ago a purchased the collectors edition of Quicksilver and when I got home to put my new baby on display I noticed one of the corners was pretty crumpled. I called up there and they told me to bring it back and swapped me for a different copy. The sweet girl took off dust jackets of the few remaining copies and presented me with the best one! Today I had another amazing experience! I got a little mixed up with my preorders and ended up with several versions of the same book from different retailers but saw that seven and one had release party swag available free with the purchase of the book. Since I already had so many copies of the book I didn’t need another one but asked if I could possibly purchase the swag bag. They gave it to me as an exception with the promise to come back later and buy more books! I loved seven and one before but now they will forever be my first stop for...
Read moreBooks AND plants?! What more could I ask for?? (Maybe coffee, but Monks is right around the corner, so I think I'll be okay. :)) My family and I stopped by Seven and One while we were in Abilene for the day and absolutely loved our visit. The location is so cute, I loved the charm of the old building-- original hardwood floors and tall ceilings. The cutie midcentury furniture throughout the sore made me want to pick a book and stay awhile. There isn't a huge selection of books in this store, but that didn't bother me - their selections were well organized with great authors and current reads that seemed carefully selected! I could've spent hours shopping. I have 3 young kids who loved the kids corner and enjoyed getting to pick out a book of their own. I really appreciate that the storekeeper/person working made us feel completely welcome and was not bothered by our kids running around exploring. 5 stars for a perfect little book store!!...
