A chill relaxed environment, friendly staff place .. definitely not designed for the common person though .. there's a reason why downtown abilene has honestly never taken off like the city has wanted it to and I feel this is one of the reasons .. this seems niche-market place that's made for rich upper class people to say I went and ate here.. I've ate at some of the best pizza places around the United States including the top places in New York and Chicago and neither of them were completely unaffordable. This place has a limited menu and serves personal sized pizzas that are smaller than most places 1 slice for $14-15 each.. if I was a drinker I could see recommending this place as a cozy sit down place to have a local beer or wine.. but id never recommend it as a place to eat.. we tried the Bindle (stated to be half calzone half pizza style) was told they were 12 to 13 inches but when it arrived it's looks like they included the 4 inches folded over into a calzone form as part of that measurement.. literally felt like I had just spent $14 on a piece of stuffed crust, lightly stuffed at that and than splashed with sauce on top of it, couldn't have been more than .75¢ worth of ingredients used .. literally paid the bill and drove somewhere else to pick up food on the way home .. I feel like this is a close resemblance to ABI Haus who obviously is closed now.. I feel like I understand you're trying to be a upper-class place and I respect that but when I think pizza I think filling, sharing and enjoying a nice bite to eat .. which I didn't get out of my experience here at all.. really wish I would have taken a picture of my disappointment but I didn't .. I'm sure this place is successful and my review won't mean much to anyone because there's always people that have to feel good about themselves paying expensive prices for literally nothing.. this place could be so much as could downtown Abilene.
I will stress though the Hostess was super nice and caring, she brought my 2 year old crayons paper and a dinosaur to play with .. waiter did his job but didn't really exceed it as they put water and silverware on the table before hand and the sodas if that's what you choose are bottled at $3 a pop for 12oz .. he took our order and really never checked back up on us, wasn't even the one who brought us the pizza but it being a pizza joint upper class or not it wasn't really expected anyways..
I made this 2 stars solely because I'm not a drinker so I didn't experience that side and the ambience was nice for a night out. Wish y'all the best and hope you can appreciate my honestly and I'd love for y'all to...
Read moreVagabond Pizza in Abilene absolutely blew us away! From start to finish, everything from the restaurant atmosphere, drinks, food, and service was top-notch.
We were lucky to have Steven take care of us, and he made the experience even more memorable. Sometimes the most impactful thing is simple, genuine customer service and Steven nailed it. He asked what we liked to drink, listened carefully, and brought the perfect craft beer and wine based on our preferences. That level of thoughtfulness really set the tone.
We started with the caprese salad, which was fresh, vibrant, and full of flavor. Then came the stars of the show: the Luciaand Sofia pizzas. Both were absolutely scrumptious, the dough had a beautiful balance of chewiness and crunch, with a rich, flavorful crust that showed real care and technique.
To top it all off, the homemade tiramisu was packed with flavor. It had a bold coffee taste that was strong but incredibly well-balanced, rich, smooth, and just the right amount of sweetness. Truly the cherry on top of a perfect meal.
What really stood out was how seamless the service was. I never had to ask for a to-go box or the check, Steven was consistently attentive, funny, and conversational without ever hovering.
I’m a little disappointed I didn’t take any photos, but honestly, that’s a sign of how great the experience was. Vagabond Pizza is the kind of place where you’re fully present, just enjoying every bite and every moment. Highly recommend. We’ll...
Read moreUpon arrival at the Vagabond we were told it would be a 30-40 minute wait. Which is pretty normal to wait at this restaurant due to the limited seating. The hostess ended up taking down our name and number and stated once a table opened up they would give us a call. Perfect. The issue began when we can back after 30 minutes to check how much longer was the wait. The hostess ended up taking down the wrong number, but stated once a table opens up you’ll be next. Again, perfect. Then a table opened-but instead of offering it to us it was offered up to another party. So I approached the hostess again. She stated she did not feel the table was adequate for our party of two adults and one child. Then offered us to sit at the bar with our child after we’ve been waiting for over an hour for a table. We told her no that won’t work due to our child. Then stated that we just would have to wait again for another table. By this time we’ve already waited enough. This hostess then asked us to leave because they were not able to make us happy. Basically due to the hostess’s not able to properly write a number down and their inability to ask if a table was adequate for our party we were asked to leave. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever...
