Monks has good coffee for more reasonable pricing than competitors. I believe the ingredients are higher quality as well. These are the main reasons I choose them. IMO they have the best tasting coffee/drinks in Abilene.
That said, drinks can be inconsistent depending on who is making them and that really wouldnt be a huge deal if the girls behind the counter didn't get SO defensive and make it one. They always insist the reason the drink was off was bc of something the customer did as though its not possible they could've made a mistake. Twice now, they've insisted I said something I know I didn't on different kinds of drinks. Ive had to ask for maybe... six re makes in the last two YEARS and I go three or four times a month. This is not because they dont make more mistakes than that, these are just the times the drink was bad enough it couldn't be drank. I have no idea why the girls make SUCH a big deal over something that happens so seldom and look to blame someone. The guys don't argue, make snarky comments they think you can't hear, LIE, or make ugly facial expressions. The attitudes are a BIG turn off.
Also, there is a good amount of seating, but the furniture is gross. The couches look disgusting and are in dire need of...
Read moreI work downtown and have been a regular here for awhile. My husband often wondered why I didn’t just make my coffee at home, and after trying Monks, he finally understood! LOL. The team at Monks is always so friendly and quick to greet me, making every visit a pleasure.
The other day, I walked in and saw the manager or owner (not sure which) training a new employee. It was clear how much she cared — she took the time and paid attention to every detail to ensure the new employee had the support she needed. I really appreciate the quality and consistency I get from Monks. Even though different people make my drinks, they always taste the same, which I truly value — unlike many coffee shops where the same order can taste different each time.
I usually get the iced dirty chai with a Cubano shot and oat milk. As a chai "snob," I can confidently say they have the best chai in town. Thank you for fueling my mornings and always making my day a...
Read moreI enjoy going downtown for a quick cup of coffee to brighten my day. On rare occasions, I bring my service dog with me, especially when I’m having a challenging day. My dog does not wear a vest indicating she’s a service animal, but I’m always prepared to answer questions if needed.
Today, when I entered, I was immediately met with, “Sorry, this is going to be really awkward, but we only allow service animals in our building.” I was not asked any clarifying questions, such as “Is your dog a service animal required because of a disability?” or “What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?”
I’m not upset, but I was taken aback and saddened by the approach. A simple, respectful question would have sufficed and avoided the awkwardness. I hope this feedback encourages more thoughtful interactions in the future, as it’s important to balance enforcing policies with ensuring customers feel respected...
