Discount Model Trains — Local services in Addison

I just recently moved to the DFW area, so when a friend suggested that we go visit his favorite train store I was skeptical. In this hobby, to support local, normally means paying considerable more. Anyways, with a new State and new home, I had decided to build a new layout. I found an existing track plan that needed to be slightly reduced due to room size. The very knowledge staff first assisted me with finalizing what type of track to get. I was leaning in one direction but with their advise and suggestions, went the other way. The other issue was the actual track purchase. Determining exactly what I was going to need was going to be difficult because on the reduced size layout. They suggested that I just purchase everything as stated on the track plan, and return at a later date whatever is extra. Even if that is a year from now. That was super customer service and not something you would normally find elsewhere. So, I went ahead with the purchase, not knowing if I was going to be taken to the cleaners or not. After I got home, I checked several items that I had bought against online prices. Everything that I checked was in fact cheaper at the store. I am a very happy customer and will be sure to return to them for all of my future model...

I’ve shopped here a few times over the years. Employees are great. Guess I never met the owner! He couldn’t be bothered! Was real grumpy when I had questions. I had my track ready to purchase and he just looked at me and grunted that someone else could help. I had another questions about some rubber for my tire so I explained the situation and asked for his expert opinion. He just shoved the bottle down and got snooty. Obviously doesn’t give a crap. I just put my stuff back on the shelf and walked out! If you know what you want fine. They have a decent selection. If not don’t bother asking questions!!! I was very polite and even said I appreciated his patience when I asked my final question. Well if you don’t want my business there is always online. My experience with this store was exceptional. Larger than most hobby shops I have visited, especially those that cater to only the model railroad market. Great selection, friendly and knowledgeable staff, very clean and well organized.

Although they did not have the locomotive I wanted in DCC ready version, I went ahead and bought the sound version anyway.

They have a great collection of books and magazines also. And a very nice collection of consignment items, including some brass stuff.
