I remember going to this place in high school a little over 10 years ago and am honestly surprised it’s still open.
I’ll never forget how terribly that lady treated me. I was 15, and was happy that a comic store opened up down the street from my school and wanted to go check it out. I started walking through the store and said hi. She just stared at me coldly. I was shy and timid back then and assumed either she was having a bad day or just didn’t hear me. I began to look through the comics and after about 10 seconds was scorned from across the room as she yelled at me to “not be so rough” with the pages. I told her I was being gentle and she told me I was lying. I love books and have always taken particular care to treat them nicely so this struck me as odd. She then stared me down for the rest of the time I was in the store and I honestly wasn’t sure of what to do. I just looked at a couple more and then proceeded to leave.
This is the first time in my life that I had someone be so mean to me for seemingly no reason. I couldn’t tell if she thought I was someone else or what because I didn’t get why she just instantly hated me. I found it even more strange when my friend came in and got treated amazingly well. I’m not going to draw any conclusions but I’m black and my friend is white. I don’t know why she treated me so harshly, made me feel so unwelcome, but I’ll never forget it.
If at all you can find somewhere else to shop, I wholeheartedly...
Read moreI strongly recommend avoiding this card shop. Over the weekend, I decided to give it a second chance after a poor initial experience, hoping the first visit was just an off day for the owner. Unfortunately, the second trip was even worse.
To start, the store is an absolute mess. It’s difficult to see what’s inside the display cases because they’re obstructed by large stacks of boxes. The owner is incredibly rude and lacks any sense of professionalism or friendliness, which makes for a very unpleasant shopping experience.
Regarding pricing, while I understand that hobby shops often have markups, the prices here are outrageous. For example, they were charging $900 for a WNBA Select box that typically sells for under $600. I don’t mind paying a bit more to support a good local shop, but these prices are completely unreasonable.
To make matters worse, I purchased a box marked at $140, and despite the owner agreeing to honor that price, I was still charged $179 at checkout. I didn’t argue because I just wanted to leave, but this kind of shady behavior is unacceptable.
This shop desperately needs new ownership—someone who actually cares about the hobby and treats customers with respect. As it stands, it’s run by someone who seems miserable and uninterested in providing a welcoming or professional environment. Save yourself the frustration and take your...
Read moreNot sure why so many people have left negative reviews about the owner and her store but I can only speak on my experience. I walked randomly on a Sunday, I walked in said hello the Lady who owned the store said hello back. I browsed around for a few minutes taking in the endless amount of comic options, I felt like a kid again I really loved the variety of comics they had there. After a few minutes the owner kindly asked if I was looking for anything in particular that she could help recommend, I said no nothing in particular because I already had a few comics in mind. Then she was nice enough to explain how the entire store is organized so that it could me with my search. I ended up buying a few comic books and we had a great 10 minute conversation about comics, her history in the business, upcoming comics that are going to release soon. I had a great experience at this comic book store, the owner was very kind and welcoming. I feel like some people expect a grand performance everytime someone walks into the store. Someone people will just greet you and let you look around until you have questions. The owner was great and I highly recommend this comic shop whenever you’re in the area. This is my...
