I lived in Glebe for a little over a year. I have mixed reviews, but overall I think this place is a decent place to start if you’re a first time renter.
Firstly, the price was good when I lived there (approximately $1,100 including utilities). However, looking at the current price would probably turn me away. But I get it, NOVA is a growing area and rental property rates are high.
Secondly, the management is responsive. They are also accommodating, which helped me a great deal during the government shutdown.
Thirdly, it’s in a decent location. You’re not only close to the nation’s capital, but you’re close to a vast majority of shopping centers and food places. You’re less than a 5 minute drive from Potomac Yard, a walking distance from Del Sol, and a 15 minute drive from Old Town Alexandria.
However, where the location falls short is the commute. If you frequent the train to work, the bus ride can be long and tedious. Also, if you prefer the metro bus, you’re a little less than a .75 mile walk to the closest stop (welcome to NOVA).
Also, the building is definitely outdated. It is somewhere I couldn’t see myself staying for over a year, with community laundry, thin walls, and old appliances. But you get what you pay for.
Lastly, the sprinkler renovations are horrid. They are visibly spread across the ceiling and are an eyesore. The construction for it was terrible and left a hole in my wall where I could hear every sound from people walking into the building since my room was next to the front entrance.
Overall, Glebe House apartments is what it is advertised to be, and that is a place where you can temporarily settle until it’s time for the next chapter. It’s definitely not where I’d settle my family, but cozy enough for me to call home until I found a better place. I’d suggest this place if you’re a college student, new to the area, or just trying to get your bearings straight. Although the amenities are slim to none, you’ll have a decent price, decent location, and pretty awesome HBO, cable, and gym deal for the first couple of months.
This edit stands as a reply to the following comment:
With regards to my "enjoyable time" at Glebe, contrary to the mild tone of my initial review, I did enjoy my time at Glebe House Apartments. Rather, my comments are eluding more so to the fact that for a little bit more, you can receive a lot more. I'm sure many people find this property fit to call home, and I should not be the one to disagree with their preferences in what they find accommodating. However, I do feel that it is my obligation to give potential viewers an honest review. In regards to the commute, I stated previously that this location is particularly hard if you prefer the Metro bus under WMATA. Sure, there is a bus stop in front of the the apartments, but if you prefer the more conventional bus routes or you'd prefer to only keep up with 1 bus pass instead of multiple, or you would rather have a pass that works interchangeably between the busses and the trains, then you generally have to walk .75 miles to get to the closest WMATA bus station.
I also stated that the building was outdated, but updated with a more than questionable sprinkler system. In my experience, I was not offered the opportunity to have the hole filled in my wall. But, in their defense, there was someone staying there with the exact same name as me. There was a similar mix up before, but management straightened this out.
Lastly, as I previously stated, the apartments do offer good accommodations, such as a good HBO, cable, and gym package for the first 3 months. However, the only accommodation I think is worth while for your whole duration of tenancy is the utilities being included in the rent. Even then, 1200 is still a little high, but definitely a good price for the area.
Overall, Glebe is not a dirty place with rats and roaches with nothing to offer. At the same time, it is not luxury. It's just what you need, not much more, nothing less. I hope this edit is informational for both the apartments and...
Read moreI lived here for about 3 years, in a studio apartment.
Pros: The place has a great location (close to a shopping center, Crystal City, Reagan Airport, Del Ray, etc.). The staff are also very nice and responsive to maintenance requests. Although the building is old (from the 1950s, I think?), I actually didn't have a lot of maintenance issues and I never had a pest problem either. Rent was incredibly low for the area and it was never increased during my stay, even though I went month-to-month after the first year Rent included all utilities + cable
Cons: The walls did not muffle any noise. This is the main reason I moved because I was starting to feel pretty miserable. Being on the second floor with neighbours above, below, right, and left, I heard everything that human beings do. I once heard my next door neighbour stirring with a metal utensil--that's how thin the walls were. If you're a noise-sensitive person like me I would highly suggest you look elsewhere. Shared laundry. It's just not for me. Small, old place Cats were allowed in the building and the smell of litter boxes and animals stunk up the main hallway. I held my breath walking to my unit sometimes.
Overall if you need an inexpensive place to stay with a convenient location, Glebe House may be a good fit. Just make sure you bring earplugs, white noise machine and get a top floor unit if you're a...
Read moreI lived at Glebe House Apartment from 2017 to 2024. This place gave me peace of mind and financial stability because the rent is affordable and all utilities plus cable are included and free parking yet the location is amazing. Located less than 15 minutes from downtown D.C and most major attractions in the D.C area. 10 mins from Reagan airport, 7 min from Crystal City, 2, 1 miles from Arlington and 2 min from the Potomac Yard metro station, less than 5 min from major grocery stores. The property management team composed of Joann, Lee (now retired), Greg and Denise are very friendly and always available to help and expedite any issues. The complex is well maintained and safe all year round. Never had any parking issue. Overall I was very pleased to live there for the past 7 years of my life.
