STAY FAR FAR AWAY!
My boyfriend and I were here shopping for Thanksgiving early in the afternoon. My boyfriend went though the line before me and got his stuff no problem. However, when it came time to buy my items; there was a problem.
I got my Driver's License renewed and so new state policy gave me a temporary Driver's License which was paper and I was witing to get the hard pastic on mailed to me. Technically, this temporary Driver's License is still a VALID ID. Yet, when I gave it to the cashier, she asked me for my "real one". Which threw me a back. I told her it was real and it was scanable. She then asked if I had the old one with the hole punched (not a vaild ID if there is a hole punched in it). I said no because its not a valid ID so why would I carry it with me. My boyfriend jumped in and said the exact same thing. Her "manager" came over and said that they can't except my ID and saying its not valid. What? That it wasn't vaild. If I can still drive legally then yes it is vaild.
They did not let me buy the alcohol and when my boyfriend offered to buy it, they told him no since he was with me. Which made no sense since he and I are the exact same age. Technically, they should have taken his items away as well since he was with me.
Now after, I went to Target and bought the same alcoholic items with my temporary Driver's License with NO PROBLEM. I have been to 2 OTHER BINNY'S within the City of Chicago buying more alcohol with the same temporary Driver's License WITH. NO. PROBLEMS. 3 days after.
Now I have no idea why the cashier thought my temporary Driver's License was either fake or not a valid ID. I can only think the that the team at the Carpentersville Binny's has extreme lack of customer service training. Or the probelm was that I'm a person of color who looks like I'm 16 when I'm 30. While my boyfriend is white who looks like 35 while being 30. I have been constantly carded (with vaild IDs) and expect to still get carded until I'm 60 stil having vaild IDs. But I was treated unfairly and rudely. Though this isn't the worst I have been unfairly treated. The staff at the Carpentersville Binny's need to do their job properly and not be lazy in their education of IDs. It was also not appropriate that they let my boyfriend walk out of the store, with alcohol, with a person who couldn't. Since he could not buy mine and I was WITH him. I will not be returning to this Binny's and would/will go get alchohol in the city and PAY city tax. Chicagoans hate paying city tax.
I'll be telling my family and friends to stay the HELL away from here since the staff can not do their job...

Let me get something out of the way: my kids and I were not happy that the owners of the old Barnes & Noble property in Crystal Lake decided not to renew the lease and rented to a new Binny's instead. So I go to this one in Algonquin. Yeah, sounds silly. Anyway, I would probably give five stars because there is a huge selection, and the employees are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The only reason for giving four is that huge stores like this generally overshadow smaller family businesses. Also, I'm a very moderate drinker and only occasionally get a bottle of red wine, so I probably do not represent the majority customer base. But...
Read morePhenomenal Binnys! Had visited a few other stores today out of boredom and this is the only one I actually bought things from. I always tell employees I’m just looking as I truly am not a connoisseur yet, and most of them leave after that.
I was about to walk out of this location when a very friendly employee, who had already asked if I needed help, asked once more just to make sure I didn’t need any help. We got to talking and he recommended two whiskeys, bought both and tried the first one tonight and it was great for the price!
Thanks to this employee for double checking on me, being very friendly, and being knowledgeable enough to recommend some...
