This store and owner has very questionable ethics, they stole my sons phone, and my deposit money, and only offered to give it back when I threatened to call the police. I created a time line for people to review and see the shenanigans that happened. 9-18-17: Called McHenry store for a quote. Was quoted 120.00.
9-21-17: I paid the 100.00 deposit and dropped off Andy’s phone. Chris quoted me 160.00 for the repairs. Nice price increase.
9-25-17: Called for an update. No answer, left voice mail.
9-26-17: Called for an update. Found out they received a defective display screen from the vender. They will need to ship it back and get another one. This could take 1 week.
9-27-17: Called for an update. No answer, left voice mail.

10-3-17: Called for an update. No Answer, left voice mail.
10-3-17: Called for an update. Found out the defective display screen was received today and they verified the screen was bad. They will ship another one, expected arrival would be that Friday or the following Monday. I asked for someone to call me Friday with an update and I complained about the lack of customer service, time delay, and follow up calls. Chris offered to completed the phone repairs for no additional cost, just the 100.00 deposit I paid.
10-9-17: Called for an update. No answer.

10-10-17: Called for an update. No answer, left a voicemail.
10-11-17: Called for an update. Found phone was disconnected. Not in service.
10-11-17: Decided to call the Algonquin branch to see if they had a new number for the McHenry store. The guy helping me identified himself as a manager and informed me the McHenry store closed down, about a week ago. I informed him of the missing phone and my deposit money. He said he will call his owner, Bob, who also owns the McHenry store.
10-11-17: I called for another update. He said Bob has not called him back. I told him I was leaving work to go to the McHenry store and then file a police report for the stolen property.
10-11-17: They called me and stated Bob does have Andy’s phone, but the defective screen was never shipped back to the vender for review. This could take 1 to 2 additional weeks to complete the repairs. I said that Bob (the owner) should have the new display screen shipped overnight, for good customer service, because of the facts surrounding this.
10-11-17: Called to see what Bob’s decision was. No answer.
10-11-17: Called for an update: No answer. Left a voicemail.
10-12-17: I called for an update: No answer.
10-12-17: I called from my desk phone. They answered. This was a different guy who didn’t know the background of what was going on. I explained the story and told him if I don’t hear from Bob by the end of the day, I will show up to the Algonquin store with the cops and file a police report for stolen property.
10-12-17: They called me back and told me Bob will have my phone and deposit money at the Algonquin store this Saturday. They will call me when it gets there, so I can come pick it up.
10-12-17: I called back and told them that I should be getting back a working phone. He said he doesn’t know the condition of the phone, that it was left in at the McHenry store, and I will get back whatever condition it was left in. Keep in mind, my phone is only 3 months old and all that was wrong was the glass on the front...
Read moreThis review was originally posted approx. 2 months ago on my Facebook page and, after what happened today (June 23rd), I feel the need to share on Google as well. My husband had to bring his laptop into the Algonquin store for service a couple of times (adware/spyware removal & something else) and never had any issues except that it was returned with a cracked bezel which he disregarded. We recently had to bring the laptop in as it fell and cracked the casing around the LCD screen and have had nothing but issues. First, we were quoted the wrong price by 2 people, then we found out that it was transferred up to Delavan for repair without our knowledge as they fired their tech in Algonquin, told me that they were just replacing the bezel but then when I paid for it was told that I was being charged for the bezel and housing (the tech argued that he did tell me but the clerk deducted the charge), they misplaced my charging cord so I had to wait another 2 days for them to locate it. When I opened the laptop to use it after charging it, I noticed that the cover for the camera was missing. The manager (Bob) called the tech in Delavan who apparently was upset about having to correct the issue but I was promised by Bob that they would find the piece or John (tech) could make a new cover as that was unacceptable for them to return it without the cover. This was on a Thursday and I never heard anything so I followed up on Tuesday. Jesus said he'd check and call me back. He left a message saying they had 2 pieces and, if I could bring my laptop in for 2 hours, they'd get the piece on there. I returned the call and spoke to someone else who said that there were no notes in the system regarding the call (not the 1st time) so he put me on hold and connected me to Jesus. I said I'd try to get in later that week but didn't come in until the next week and Jesus doesn't remember anything and said that the notes stated that they were unable to find the piece. He called John who said that he hadn't found the piece so there wasn't anything they could do. I asked Jesus to call Bob (or give me his number) to get this straightened out and he refused to do it. Jesus offered to take my number but I refused and asked that he call Bob while I'm there. I said that I could not rely or depend on anyone's word except for Bob's since, obviously, there is a major communication and integrity issue. He finally resigned, or so I thought and spoke to someone in the back, then returned and said that Bob would be in at 4:30pm to relieve him (why didn't Jesus know this when I asked him?) so I'll be going back to get this straightened out and NEVER, EVER will be doing business with them again! UPDATE AS OF 6/23: Bob promised to fix it and called me about 4-6 weeks ago stating that they found the part but it would take a couple weeks for them to get it in. I followed up today, spoke with Jose who was unable to locate Bob, and stated that the part was never ordered per the notes and the part is no longer available. Asked to have Bob call me back since he, obviously, blatantly lied to me. Extremely...
Read moreWhile traveling, my son's phone screen cracked due to a misfit little cousin. Since we had some free time, I decided to get it fixed immediately instead of waiting until I got home. I should've known to walk away when I was quoted one price for cash and another with tax if using a card when I dropped it off. (Visit 1).
They replaced the screen, I picked it up (visit 2), noticed the back wasn't fully secured on, and they claimed it was just the adhesive still drying. I brought it back to my son, and he noticed a few things not working right away, including the screen bouncing. A few hours later, I was able to bring it back. While the bouncing wasn't occurring when I dropped it off again, they did say that they would replace the screen again as maybe it was a bad part.
During this 3rd visit, I noticed they offered screen protectors at only $10 with a screen replacement, so they added that... except it was the wrong one. Completely covered the forward camera, and made the phone act like it was wet half the time. In addition, again, the back wasn't fully secure, so they added rubber bands.
After a few hours, I take the rubber bands off, and the back isn't any more secure than before. I return the next morning for a 4th time, and just ask for my $10 back from the screen protector. After a little back and forth, and the clerk admitting they didn't have the right protector, he gives me $7 out of the til, and $3 from his own wallet.
My son starts to notice more glitches, including the phone regularly freezing up any time he was using a power-hungry app. Coincidentally, the following weekend, he tripped while roller blading and the phone was in his pocket, thus, shattering the screen.
I brought the phone into a legit C.P.R. nearby that I've used with other devices. For the same money, they replaced the screen, told me that the screen that had been used was from the reject pile of the manufacturer (same manufacturer they use so they know of the lower end options), and was poorly replaced.
I'll stick with the reputable chains from here on out, and will for sure be telling my friends and family in the Algonquin area...
