I have driven by this place before several times when I had to travel on Algonquin Rd. to get to the place I used to work at and never knew what it was. Last week I met my mangers for the curtain place I work at here for a one-on-one meeting. I looked up the menu online and was happy to find 3 drinks that would interest me. As someone who has issues with dairy, I was happy to see that there were non-dairy alternatives to be added to drinks if need be. Also, I saw a wonderful treat on the menu that I wanted to give a try as well.
I had a hard time deciding between the 3 drinks ((midnight moon lemonade, hibiscus shaker which has coconut milk already in it, and hibiscus berry sparkling iced tea)), but I was able to settle on one, which was the midnight moon lemonade made with butterfly blue tea and lemonade. I'm so glad that I got this drink because it tasted so good and it was such a lovely color as well! It does need to be mixed up, so you don't get a mouth full of the syrup that's within it. Even my mangers though that the color of the drink looked awesome.
It was still socially distanced inside of the building, but we were still able to find a spot to sit and it felt nice and comfortable inside as well. I liked all the art work on the walls and all the other decor that was scattered around as well. We sat at the long table in the middle of one of the rooms and I didn't feel as if there were a lot of people hovering around and breathing down my neck. It was pretty quiet in there and we kept our voices at a nice volume, but there was one guy on a Zoom Meeting, so he was a lot louder than everyone else within the building. Kind of annoying and I even felt embarrassed as well, even though I didn't know this guy.
The only reason I'm docking one star is because THE KITCHEN CLOSES AT 2PM!!!! Yes, that needs to be in all caps because I know there are people who are going to go there and hope for a warm treat only to be disappointed that the kitchen is closed. I was looking forward to the fruit waffle, as I'm a dog walker and was out walking dogs all day before the meeting, so I was really hungry! I was so upset when I found out that I couldn't get the waffle because my meeting time was after 2pm. I ended up getting a chocolate crescent from the pasty case. It held me over for the walk I had after the meeting, but it wasn't something I could live off of. I noticed that their hours are pretty 'short', as it looks like they close at either 4 or 5pm, but I wish they'd keep the kitchen open until closing, so anyone who stops by can grab something warm and...
Read moreI love this place!!
I come every Saturday with my wife, and occasionally by myself if I'm in the area. We always look forward to it. The staff is so sweet. I love making friends with them and talking to them every week. Very occasionally someone spaces on part of my order but it's to be expected of any business, especially one that gets as busy at this one. It's not a big deal. It's affordable, and slightly cozy. Maybe not the coziest place, but I'm partial to cozy couches. I try to get the couch every Saturday. I'd say I'm successful 50% of the time. :)
The food is like 4.5 out of 5 stars. It's not like it's some expensive restaurant where you expect the food to be astoundingly delicious. I've been getting the same thing for nearly a year so that should show you that I still like eating it regardless. Thanks for the good times you all.
The one awful thing about this place is the quality of the audio. The speakers pretty much only put out mid range. The music sounds HORRIBLE. I do not understand why it's so bad! I can't tell if it has something to do with what's going on before the music gets to the speakers, like the preamp or something, or if it's the speakers themselves. I'm an audio engineer so I become hyperfocused on this. There has got to be a way to get better amplification in there. It sounds like all the music is coming out of a boombox under 3 blankets LOL. I think the atmosphere would be even better if the music sounded pleasant.
And the only other thing that's bothersome is the fact that their register iPad malfunctions regularly and has for years. They told me they've gone through several of them, but somehow they continue to have problems. This doesn't really bother me or anything, but I assume it's really annoying for the staff, and I know they wish it could be remedied somehow.
Overall I love this place and I still am not tired of it. When I do get tired of it I'll probably just start ordering something else, rather than finding a new spot.
Keep in mind I drive 40 minutes to this place every Saturday! Worth it! I always look forward to the smiling faces of the staff. And if they aren't smiling, that's completely okay, I just hope they feel...
Read moreVery pretty venue with great tasting coffee! Will go again. The menu is expansive and the food is quality.
We went when it was quite busy, and a few things could have been better.
When you order coffee, they don't ask for a name or give you a number. As a result, there was lots of confusion about whose coffee was whose after it was made. I'm pretty sure another customer got my order as they ordered the same thing after but claimed the first made (How would they have known not to?).
Food is brought to a sign they give you at ordering, but perhaps because it was busy, these weren't always collected after food was delivered. And, since you have to get your coffee at the counter but food at your table, there were many numbers at tables with no people, or worse, food at tables unattended while people stood for their coffee. It'd be nice if coffee and food could be brought together so this wasn't the case.
Besides these few hiccups, it was a perfect experience. And, I'm sure, these are only issues when it's really busy.
Edit: Been back in less busy times. Service has been great each time. Above comments still stand, but I figure now I'm a regular they deserve...
