Habitat Store — Local services in Ames

If you need furniture, tools, or supplies for home maintenance or remodeling, do yourself and go to the Habitat Store FIRST. They may just have what you need, for a huge savings, and the profits go to a very worthy cause. The store in Ames is in a good location right off of north Grand Avenue. Parking is more than adequate. The entrance is odd though - don't use the front door. Go around to the south side of the building and enter there. They're not open every weekday either, and this can be very inconvenient, BUT it's completely staffed by volunteers, so I give them a pass...

Sometimes, on rare occasion, you can find a bargain at this place-- but it's rare. Their prices on their furniture and lamps especially are absolutely absurd. Weren't these items donated? Isn't Habitat for Humanity a place where people can go to find good-used-home supplies when they can't afford to buy new ones?? But you might as well buy a new sofa, when an outdated used one costs over $500 at this place. I cannot see the justification for having such ridiculously high prices on USED and...

Love this place! Always has great prices and has everything: furniture, hardware, tools, even boxes of nails and cans of paint! If you're looking for some cheap used furniture, or just a DIY hobbyist, I would recommend checking them out!
