I have purchased clothing both full price and on sale from clays over the past two years in Amherst Mass. I am on their mailing list and I receive regular coupons when they have sales. I am elderly and handicap so getting there can be difficult at times but I only shop couple times a year. Today I was traveling home from the North, New Hampshire and decided to stop in Amherst to save myself another lengthy trip from my house to Claus where I live in Springfield mass. I did not plan to shop when I left the house this morning for New Hampshire and when I arrived, the store was empty of customers and two sales people pleasantly greeted me. I explained that my coupon was home but I was on their mailing list and they could’ve easily look that up in their computer as they have my home phone my email and all other information. They informed me they could not honor 20% off without me presenting an actual physical coupon. Unfortunately I did not shop or spend any of my money at this business since they were not accommodating to a loyal customer . My perception was they are more interested in making money then keeping a valued customer. I...
Read moreOne week ago I purchased two items that were marked down and understood that I would receive the advertised 50 % off prices. When I arrived home I noticed that one item was marked $23.27 but the sales slip listed the price as $33.27. When I returned to the shop I was told that it was a human error and that they could not correct it. Hence, the price I had to pay with my 50% preferred customer discount was more than the ticketed price of $23.27. The clerk agreed that it did not seem fair but she did not have the authority to either take the item back or to give me the ticketed price at least. She took my name and phone number and said that she would have the owner call me. That was a week ago and I have heard nothing. Buyer beware!
I received a call on 9/30 from the store manager who, under the circumstances, agreed to give a full credit card refund. I am satisfied that this...
Read moreI have gone to Clays in Amherst for 15 years, buy all my clothes there, have spent thousands there. I have recommended it to others. But something has changed. I recently bought an item on a shelf on which everything was advertised as 33% off. I was charged the full price. Then I noticed it and went back to be refunded the discount. The clerk, backed up by an owner, refused to give the discount ("that brand was not supposed to be discounted"). I told her it was on the discount shelf. "It shouldn't have been there." I said I was upset, that it was not fair." "I'm sorry you feel that way. It was surprising, maddening. Amazing. Even if the item was placed there by mistake, by them, they should have honored the discount to a loyal long term customer. I will not be shopping there again and I will discourage...
