My husband and decided to check out Mickey and Minnie's Runaway railway in Toontown. I had read so much about the theatrical hoopla they give Mickey in the preshow area that I wanted to check it out for myself. For this reason we decided not to invest in individual purchase lightning lane so we could cool off and take everything in.
I really loved the movie parody billboards of classic Disney movies and some of Mickey's outstanding roles. Sure we may remember him as the Sorceror's apprentice and Steamboat Willie but he was also in "the prince and the pauper." So much to see in this area. Course the best set up was the concession stand in the middle. Try if you can to take it all in-sort of hard when you have to move through a line. Still it is worth getting pictures of.
The movie's theme is Mickey and Minnie in "A perfect picnic." The picnic turns out to be anything but perfect when Goofy rams into them during the preshow and he asks you to become part of the cartoon itself. You are then directed to the boarding area that is run by a train engine. The cars you ride in are trackless and again you are led by engineer Goofy as he meets up with Mickey and Minnie enroute to their picnic.
Meanwhile the famous couple is stopped at a RR crossing but then appear in scene after scene such as the wild west and an amusement park as your trackless vehicle continues its journey. You are caught up in a "twister" from "the Band concert" that throws you and your cartoon friends into a tropical paradise. More misadventures await as you travel from scene to scene.
One of my favorite parts was seeing Daisy Duck lead you into a whirlwind ballet class that your trackless car dances in synchronazition and end up doing a conga. All in all you have a happy ending with Mickey singing "nothing can stop us now." It's truly a whirlwind of delights and adventure as your trackless car goes...
Read moreThe hard work Disney Imagineers put into creating this attraction is abundantly clear, it’s incredible. The queue is like a ride in and of itself; it’s quirky fun perfection! There are multiple elements, such as poster parodies of classic Disney films, “props” from Fantasia, and Pluto’s Christmas Tree (a favorite short of mine as a kid). The cinema concession is a show-stopping photo op. The queue keeps you entertained, so if your wait happens to be lengthy, enjoy the queue!
*No spoilers. The pre-show was incredible, especially the first time. Cast Members did a great job interacting with characters on-screen to immerse you with what’s to come. Things happened during this pre-show I’d never seen before, and kept me wondering how they did it.
This is an all ages friendly ride. Good luck not getting the song stuck in your head, but at least it’s not It’s A Small World! Our first ride through was perfect, then on the second, Daisy’s face projection malfunctioned, which was funny to see in-person and not on YouTube. I don’t love that Disney started to using projections; personally, I don’t find it as engaging as animatronics. Overall, I may have enjoyed the queue more than the ride. I did get slightly motion sick during parts of this ride since it’s screen-heavy, so other sufferers out there, be warned!
Wait times were all over the place. We got to walk-on several times, but the ride would go down and it bumped as high as 60min.
If you get the opportunity to ride this attraction, be...
Read morewhere do i begin. first off, they destroyed one of the greatest rides ever created at Hollywood studios and turned it into this ride. huge mistake! the great movie ride had such potential. imagine if they had rethemed it to all the Disney classic animated movies. imagine scenes from 101 dalmatians, fox and the hound, rescuers, lady and tramp, aristocats, robin hood, etc etc. it would of been the best attraction every created and would of made literally millions of people happy! instead they build this lackluster cardboard cheap mickey mouse ride that misses the mark on so many levels. people want classic mickey, not this new cocaine mickey. dont get me wrong, its a mediocre ride and its kind of fun. but to remove a classic and replace it with this. jeez, Imagineering is sooooooo out of touch. then, the proceed to build another one at Disneyland!! unbelievable! the daisy duck dance room is the stupidest thing I've ever seen, I always thought it was just something to fill space at HS, but the Disneyland version has the same room. I consider this ride to be a mediocre attraction. its fun, but not what the people want. I'm so sick of Disney building screen based rides, digital face animatronics and nothing by cardboard sets. its not Disney! there's a reason the lines for this ride are never very long because the ride is...
