This ride has stood the test of time and even though I hate when rides are replaced, I actually wouldn't mind seeing this one get a huge facelift. It just recently underwent an upgrade after being sponsored by Honda but when we rode Autopia last week, nothing really seemed any different. There are Honda hood emblems on each of the cars now but other than that, the changes are too subtle for me to find. I can sit in slow traffic on any freeway in Los Angeles or Seattle so why would I want to do it on a ride?
The kids love it and they especially love it when they are finally tall enough to drive the car by themselves and it is one of those must ride attractions when you visit. I find that if you don't ride something while you are there, you may not ever get to if they remove the ride so you might as well do it while you can.
The cars are all limited to a nice slow speed and they say not to bump the cars in front of you however most people don't follow that rule and they do plow right into you if given the chance. There were no real repercussions for the people that did hit other cars so I guess it's okay.
They used to give you an honorary driver's license upon exiting the ride but now that they have photo booths that can add your photo to the license, you have to pay $5.00 per just to get one. Definitely not worth it in my mind.
If you're looking for go-karts, these really aren't it but if you want to get off of your feet for a few minutes then check out Autopia. It's a cool experience once or twice.
Thanks...
ย ย ย Read moreWe rode Autopia last night toward park closing time. The gas-car exhaust fumes were unbearable, and the fact that this dinosaur of a ride is still daily spewing toxic carbon monoxide into our earth's environment and the public's lungs in spite of the climate catastrophe unfolding as a consequence of humanity's last 200 years of burning fossil fuels is reflects very poorly on the Disney corporation and the country it represents to people all over the world. The bad smell reveals a toxicity seemingly at odds with Disney's squeaky-clean brand. Due to its emissions, this ride is not recommended or.safe for anyone with breathing issues--and isn't that all of us? To continue this attraction in the name of nostalgia is totally irresponsible, monstrously damaging, and horribly gauche.
Ironically, this attraction is in Tomorrowland, conceived by Disney the guy as a place where we could envision an exciting future for humans. Unfortunately, at the rate Disney is going, it's looking like this sad, toxic, outdated ride might indeed be the future we're bound to get. Wake up, Disney, and use your corporate might to set a...
ย ย ย Read moreAutopia is one of Disneyland's original rides and it offers a scenic views with billboards of the various locations. The cars are primarily designed for an adult passenger and child driver, two adults may get uncomfortable on this ride. It is available for lightning lane since it does get crowded fairly quickly.
You can hear the engine sound as you drive off and really the car is controlled by the center rail you are following. You can control the gas petal and steer and when you let up on the gas the car slows down. You may have seen this type of ride in other amusement parks. They all work the same way.
When you get on early when park opens, then you really don't have to worry about bumping other cars since you have no one in front of you. It's a fun and challenging journey. The ride lasts about 5 minutes.
The autopia driver's license has been restored and you can get one which is good for at least 1000 years for a fee.
Autopia may be dated but it is an opportunity to ride something that was around when this park opened in 1955. Another classic Disney experience located in...
