Was browsing gun section and saw a pistol I wanted. Provided my CCL, DL, and started going through the process ( I thought). The two clerks at the counter together might be 36 years old, but no problem with young guns working a first job. The clerk helping me went to the back for 10 minutes looking for the gun box, came back, and realized he would need to sell the display. 5 minutes later thought I would be doing fed paper work, but they had me sign a waiver that it was a display and I could not return the gun to the store and if I did… I would have to completely unload the gun, wrap in cellephane and 6 layers of bubble wrap. Where they could only assist in helping contact the manufacturer. (What ever) finally was able to start the Federal questions… got done and signed. Went to look for a case while the clerk processed the document. And got called back… to the counter. The Teenager clerk did not like that my signature did not percisely match the electronic signature and shrunk signature and had me redo it until it satisfied him. No conceal cases for my purchase, I am tapping my credit debit card waiting to pay. Now the clerk gets on the phone with the manager…. He flips through legal looking papers, and finally draws a signature line on it for me to sign. This is paper is that I will not have a pistol out for children to access… easy… I don’t have kids and none come to my house. I think now I will pay and get out… but the clerk gets back on the phone with a manager… 5 minutes later the manager arrives and he again wants to go through everything the kid did and treat me like I’m an idiot that slipped through a concealed carry class and background check. After his lecture and how they have had problems in the store before… where some one brought a loaded gun to the store… he admits I can conceal carry a loaded gun or open carry… as they do not have any signs restricting this… yes a Head slap moment for him. Finally I pay. And ready to go… but instead of walking me out and give me my purchase, he calls for a Gun Runner! Another wait for them… then I get walked to the front of the store with the Gun Runner (maybe 20 years old). The whole way I complain about how long this took… the kid Gun Runner says it is their policy to be painfully slow, which I reply that I will not return to this store… Get to the entrance but instead of giving me the purchase he insists on walking me past the sidewalk and then giving me the gun.
Call back later to the store to complain…. Told Jordan that it was their treatment of customers was stupid and if they really were worried about someone who just provided all their I’d went through a security check was a threat to the store they really should have put the child’s lock on the gun and replaced the magazine with the dummy magazine. He said it is all corporate policy… so having bought guns from multiple places and this being a painful experience…. I told him I will not ever shop academy sports again. I’m sure he doesn’t care about my purchase or his bosses… but I cared about such a crappy experience to share with everyone on the interweb. I keep vowing only to buy from JT and Thompson Arms…. This is a staunch reminder to keep my vowels and only shop for guns at Thompson
Added 12 hours later are photos of the safety/protection features the manufacturer included in their packaging…. But Academy Sports would rather make their customers feel like untrustable criminals and send them out as if they were being trespassed! I’ll not darken their door again after...
Read moreThis will be my first issue with this store since purchasing my 1st pair of Reebok's for my wife a year ago. Since then I've purchased baseball & Football equipment, camping equipment, clothing and sports shoes. The staff has always been welcoming and very helpful when I needed advise on certain camping equipment. But the last pair of Nikes I purchased from this store after several uses I notice that the right insoles started forming a lump that would have my feet and my leg hurting at the end of the day. So I decided to go to Academy and exchange the shoes for the same ones (I did not asking for money back) so the gentleman ( Rob ) asked for the receipt and reason for the exchange, so explained to him that the show, after several wears a bump formed on the right side insole underneath my plantar. He then looked at the receipt and quickly informed me that the 60 days return policy expired. I then asked him what was the date on the receipt, he said the date was 5/03/2.021. So I was 2 weeks pass the 60 days return policy store policy. So I asked him if he could explain the situation to the store manager and maybe they could override it, he then informed me that he was the manager and that this was nothing he could do. I told him that for being two weeks late I was going to lose out on $110 and that I wasn't asking for my money back, that all I wanted was to exchange it for the same ones...And this is when people forget about their PROFESSIONALISM, MORALS AND RESPECT for others. ROB (THE MANAGER) TELLS ME THAT COULDNT OVERRIDE THE EXCHANGE BECAUSE HE DIDN'T KNOW WHETHER OR NOT I WAS TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT THE SHOE. I mean really? that was totally UNCALLED for and VERY UNPROFESSIONAL OF ROB(THE STORE MANAGER) to doubt or question my honesty, normally I would stand my grounds and debate this type of behavior and verbal insults but it wasn't worth it. So now I'll be contacting headquarters to see if they could override the 2weeks and I can get my exchange. Normally I give this location an excellent review and never had any issues with their items, but this incident really...

Step one: the store lures you in with racks screaming 70% OFF. Jackpot, right? You spend time digging, picking out treasures, and feeling smug about your finds. Step two: reality hits the checkout line. There’s exactly one cashier for a line full of people clutching armfuls of clearance. Hope you brought a chair, because you’re going to be there a while.
When my turn finally came, I drew the “Team Lead.” Lucky me. Instead of calling for backup to deal with the disaster of a line, he decided his true calling was part-time receptionist. So in between ringing up my items, he answered every ringing phone in the building. My checkout alone clocked in at 28 minutes. Yes, I timed it.
And then—because apparently this store runs on chaos—he tells me that half my 70%-off items are actually… full price now. Why? Because they “just haven’t gotten around to moving them off the sales rack yet.” Oh, thanks for the clarification. Nothing like being scolded for believing the signs you plastered all over your own store.
So, let’s recap: • Misleading racks that double as decoys. • A checkout line that moves slower than DMV on a Monday. • A “Team Lead” who thinks multitasking means ignoring the line while practicing his phone etiquette. • And the final flourish: being told, aggressively, that it’s my problem clearance isn’t really clearance.
This wasn’t a shopping trip. It was an endurance test. Stick to online shopping—you’ll save money, time, and maybe a little bit of...
