Warning to anyone considering using Candys Cats to re home any cats. I recently entrusted them to facilitate a courtesy adoption of my two bonded cats that I rescued from a Publix parking lots months prior. Considering their rough start in life, living outside, I decided to list with a rescue as opposed to taking to a shelter as it was extremely important they go to a loving, happy home where all their needs would be met. I thought Candys Cats would assure this but boy was I wrong.
Candys Cats adoption process was complete from application to them leaving my home in about 24 hours. I was assured that the adopter was thoroughly screened by the adoption coordinator. With feelings of uneasiness, I decided to do a home visit myself to assure the cat’s went to a good home. On my way to his house to do the home visit, I got a text from the adopter he could not find one of the cats and he’d been missing for several hours. Once I arrived the other cat was hunkered down in a crate with a black sheet over it, clearly not adjusting well. My daughter and I searched the home for 2 hours and couldn’t find the missing cat. What we did find was a home with no A/C, windows blocked with cardboard and styrofoam, dirty, cluttered, dust, dead bugs throughout the home. When speaking with the adopter during the visit, he expressed his sadness about his previous cat who died 3 days prior to adopting mine and had to die at home struggling to breath as he could not afford the recommended treatment by the vet. I also later verified this by the vets office, he had not taken his cat for any wellness prior to him being sick. With all of this, I asked him to return the cats and he refused.
I contacted Candy of Candys Cats and informed her of everything I found at the home visit. Initially she agreed they should be returned to me via a peaceful transition of care that Shelly would handle, however, 24 hours later I receive another text from Candy stating they decided to let him decide if he wants to return them.
I decided to advocate for the cats myself and informed the adopter , per the contract he signed, he needed to return the cats. He has continually refused and Candys Cats has since ignored all calls texts and emails from me regarding this matter.
This all began last month and since then I’ve made several attempts to settle the matter with no cooperation from Candys Cats or the adopter. I’ve been completely devastated and worry about the cats (Ivan and Lucas) everyday.
Clearly Candys Cats does not have the best interest of the cats in mind. I do not recommend using them nor would I ever donate any of my time or money to an...
Read moreI have four gorgeous, well-behaved, sweet as can be, cuddly polydactyl cats from Candy's Cats! I only intended to get the first one, and even then, because of past experiences with other rescue cats, I was hesitant, but I could not believe how perfect my first boy turned out to be so I kept saying yes to more kitties and I am so happy that I did. My bunch gets along so well. They're always playing with each other or snuggled up together, sleeping. Their names are now Caspian, Killian, Romulus, and Phaedra Buttercup. The boys are the most beautiful, relaxed, fun black cats and Phaedra is a super adorable, playful tortoise-shell with plenty of tortitude to boot. I've had cats all of my life but I've never consistently experienced such wonderful care and communication as I have with Candy's Cats. (I also have a Siamese cat that I acquired elsewhere and searching for her and meeting all of the people I came across along the way made me even more grateful to have had all of my wonderful experiences with Candy's Cats.) I was able to meet each and every one of my cats beforehand along with their foster moms, as well. I know everyone's experiences and their histories with their moms and litters. Having adopted four cats with them, I know them pretty well, especially Jami and Candy. They are wonderful, caring people and I am very fortunate to have come...
Read moreThis is going to be a bit long but very worth it! When I first applied to adopt a cat with this company I didn’t really have my hopes up too much because I have a dog with behavioral issues… and my hunch was correct. They had denied me at first because they did some research on my dog’s breed and they don’t usually get along with cats. But after talking to them and telling them I had been working with my dog and that he already lived with a cat for a week in his board and training they decided to give my family a chance! I was so happy, that same week Jami told me that the foster mom could drop off the kitten for a meet and greet and we INSTANTLY fell in love with him. In fact we were so excited to be part of his forever home that we couldn’t turn down his twin sister, so I contacted Jami again to see if we can have her as well and her and Amy- the kittens’ foster mom were so excited that we wanted her too! We got her about a week after the first kitten and now both kittens love my dog and we’re just so happy everything worked out. The kittens also have all their shots thanks to Candy’s Cats and Shelly. Everyone I have named in this review has been wonderful and extremely helpful. Thanks again! My phone won’t let me upload any pictures but I will once I...
