Update: I have now tried the Chocolate Lava Cake, and the cake was a bit drier and the frosting was not as flavorful, making for a pretty bland cupcake. The original below remains true, but I did want to mention this, and that my family and was not as fond of this type of cupcake.
As a self-proclaimed 'cupcake connoisseur', I want to start out this review by mentioning that not all cupcakes and frosting are the same, so if you love sugary frosting, Sweet Treasures may not be a 4-star cakery to you.
On to the actual review. Today was my first time at Sweet Treasures. I love local shops, but I have no loyalty here, (at this point in time), so my review is completely unbiased. The store is easy to find and in a nice location. Parking spaces were easy to come by. I thought the atmosphere of the store was welcoming and bright, and the seating looked well-done for a get-together with a friend, (but not ideal for a group, in my opinion). There were coffee and tea options on the menu, in addition to cupcakes, cake pops and cookies. Every single cupcake in the window looked delectable; they were little works of art! The pure-buttercream frosted cupcakes are very light and very buttery - the buttercream is delicious, (but only if you don't mind lighter on the sugar and heavier on the butter)! The ones with stuff added to the buttercream seemed sweeter to me, (and still buttery). The white cake was light, (and not dry, though the tiniest bit crumbly). The chocolate cake was thicker, (but not dense), and flavorful. Overall for taste and look, these cupcakes deserve a 4.5-star rating. The service was good - a nice young lady helped us while someone else getting trained in, and the store's cleanliness was impeccable. Between my family not being as fond of this type of cupcake and the price ($3.95 per cupcake) I decided to go with a 4-star rating. (They do offer discounts for purchases of 6 & 12 cupcakes.)
As I mentioned above, the frosting here is less sugary than other cakeries, so if you do enjoy very sugary frosted cupcakes and still want to give Sweet Treasures a try, I recommend the Peanut Butter Lava Cake, personally, (or a little less sweet would be the Cookie Blast).
Like many other reviewers, I'm disappointed to see so many 1-star reviews; even on their worst day, I can't imagine a 1-star being truly fitting, and I think misunderstandings of the type of frosting made at Sweet Treasures may be a part of the problem. A couple reviewers also mentioned Nadia Cakes being 'better', and I just want to point out, (again), that these are not at all the same style, and therefore they do not taste like Nadia Cakes cupcakes. Nadia's frostings are typically more sugary and less buttery than Sweet Treasures. To me, both make high-quality cupcakes, but they are incredibly different types of frostings...
Read moreI'm not one to write reviews unless I feel I must absolutely do it, this is unfortunately a negative one. I went in with my family looking for a new bakery to try, I'm a big fan of cake/cupcake wars and was delighted to see that she(owner) not only was on it but won it.
Right away she was very polite, and so we were all deciding what we wanted. She seemed like she wasn't too amused with us, and towards the end she seemed almost annoyed with us. My father wanted to drop off a cupcake for my mom, so when we got all of our cupcakes he asked if he could have one of them in a separate box or bag to drop it off. She said that she would charge it as a completely separate cupcake. By the way, these we're not cheap, they were gourmet so I understood, but if you bought a certain amount of them you would get a deal. So the total came to 43.00ish and my dad reiterated that he wanted all 6 cupcakes which would be about 36.00ish but just wanted a bag or something to put one of them in, not to charge it separately. She again said that she couldn't and so we just bought them all together and left, the vibe felt a bit rude and rushed. I've worked in customer service for two years and honestly I would never had done that, as long as people are polite(which we were) I would oblige. Asking for a separate bag or any sort of packaging is not a lot, so we will not be returning anytime soon.
Edit; I appreciate the response. My mom also has cancer, something we just dealt with recently hence the gift of the cupcake to her as a celebration of her returning to work from her battle of cancer. We all have our struggles, but we remain respectful and kind. We happily support small businesses, we appreciate the care and quality in those businesses rather than the cold industrial ones and how they treat their customers, which is why we choose to spend it there. Always choose kindness, you never know someone's journey or life story, I hope you have...
Read moreI need to warn you about my experience. You could decide for yourself if this is the place for your needs. I had reached out to them prior to writing this to see if they would resolve this amicably but after several emails, they decided they were not willing to work with me. After seeing this review, they started accusing me of “bullying” the business just because I am sharing my experience as a paying customer.
I chose the cake based on the website description and this establishment based off reviews. They had high ratings so I took a chance. Typically I won’t pay this price for a cake, but it was for a special occasion so I figured it would be fitting for this special occasion. Because I had shown the image and description to a few people but upon cutting the cake, it was not as pictured, everyone was disappointed. I am from NYC so I have had the opportunity for more delicious cakes and pastries; so for a cake of this price (and even cupcakes of their pricing) I was expecting to be impressed or at least feel that the cake would have more Reese’s crunch or caramel.
I reached out to the store to see if they would compensate at all or do anything but they said they made it exactly like their cupcakes and this was how people enjoy it. We did not order cupcakes; this was a cake and Aj (manager) specifically even blamed it on how we had cut the cake, but cutting the cake would not change how it was prepared inside…
The cake was not as advertised on their website. I cannot recommend them to family or friends. This is unfortunate because I was not hoping to need to write a review to warn other costumers if they were willing to do something when I reached out to them directly...
