The embarrassment and humiliation of being accused of stealing in front of everyone because their employees lack communication. I made 2 transactions, one of Chinese new year candies for our students and one for personal items. The first transaction, one lady helped me. The second transaction, a different Asian lady offered me a bag and I said yes. She was looking at me and what I was paying for. I noticed that she was acting off, waiting for me and my family to leave. I saw her go on the check out and scan her badge. I had a feeling she was going to check what I bought but we left, thinking the other lady standing there would say something. But no. She chased after us with a new receipt in hand saying "you didn't pay for the envelopes or candies." She assumed that we were stealing envelopes and candies and decided to point it out in public instead of asking the other lady standing there with her or even paying close attention since there was no one at self check out. I showed her my receipts and walked away not even looking me in the face. It made me mad. I get you don't want people stealing but why not ask your coworkers first, or even check the previous transaction since we were the ONLY ONES at...
Read moreI've just bought two steamed lobsters. One was edible, though it'd obviously been around a while. The other was rancid/rotten and stank up the house - immediately thrown out. 99 Ranch, contact me if you want to fix this and get this review removed, because I'm usually a big fan. Accessing 99ranch.com on my phone kept redirecting me to a bare bones Chinese language website, which prevents reporting a customer issue privately. I'll be spending tonight praying that I don't get food poisoning from the first one and waiting for my hair to stop standing on end... On a more positive note, the ham sandwich I had in their bakery earlier today for lunch was delicious.
UPDATE: Good news! 1) I didn't get food poisoning. 2) After going back to the store to report the issue, customer service refunded the cost immediately. 3) Their "beef-wich" that I had for lunch was delicious.
I consider this event to be an anomaly but one that requires their quality processes to be reexamined. Customer service on-site was...
Read moreThis location just opened in September. It's not anything to go out of your way for, unless you happen to be around here already. I was impressed by how spacious and clean the 99 Ranch is. I've only been to their San Gabriel, Monterey Park, and other Arcadia locations. Like other Asian markets in the area, they carry your normal assortment of veggies, along with seaweed, live seafood, and Asian pastries, but then they have luxuries like wagyu steak as well.
Grabbed a box of assorted sashimi (salmon, tuna, and yellowtail) and they were all good. Tried some tilapia as well. Everything was the right texture, fresh and buttery. Overall, I think they have restaurant quality sashimi. Even their seaweed salad didn't seem as sugary compared to what I've had at Japanese restaurants.
FYI, the prices are higher than their other locations, but it is located in a mall in Arcadia. Oh, and if you come don't forget that they don't have pushing...
