This place is unquestionably one of the many gems of the blue ridge - I like the fact that it boasts all different types of crafts; blacksmithing, painting, woodwork, textiles, etc. Mixed in with historical displays/context from the area, so there's definitely something to interest everyone.
Two things that make it stand out though are that everything is done by (and so supports) local artisans (and/or their schools) and many of the things you'll see are for sale. This is NOT, however a chintzy flea market - this is a serious, respected museum and heritage center where people who excel at what have become somewhat "lost arts" are able to display and be recognized for their work (and this is top-notch work). As a blacksmith and restorationist myself, I have an earnest appreciation for the hard work that goes into this endeavor.
