Hands-down the best tabletop and board game shop in Asheville, and maybe even WNC. Unlike some other local game stores, Wyvern's Tale actually gives you a decent discount off the MSRP of most products, which is awesome. For a relatively small space, they manage to have a pretty impressive variety of games and products; from RPGs and tabletop accessories to board and card games of every kind, even a nice selection of pre-owned RPGs for folks like me that prefer old-school tabletop. If you're into TSR-era tabletop, or even 3.x or 4E, be sure to check out the pre-owned section, as I've found some really awesome stuff there and they've helped immensely in my attempt to grow my AD&D collection.
They have space upstairs for gaming, which is a nice and cozy space. I've not used it myself but I really like that it's available.
Lastly, and the best part, are the people that run the shop. They're always courteous and friendly, and as others have mentioned, they seem to care more about the customer than the sale. I always look forward to stopping in when I'm in Asheville and seeing what new stuff has come in. It's an absolute pleasure to shop there.
And I almost forgot that in addition to the discount off MSRP on most stuff, they also have a nifty and easy rewards program that is actually really worthwhile.
This awesome FLGS deserves all the praise it gets, and if you've yet to give them a visit, I suggest fixing that at your earliest convenience; you...
Read moreDeceptively small gaming store, and I mean that in a good way.
It looks tiny from the outside, but in that space they managed to pack so much stuff - though it isn’t cluttered.
Everything is pretty well organized and easy to look through.
The individual running the shop was engaging and courteous.
They have an awesome selection of RPG books, lots of indie company titles on the shelf.
Miniatures range from Wizkids ranges, to reaper.
A surprising amount of Battletech stuff, including neoprene mats which are generally tough to find.
A selection of Age of Sigmar spearheads and boxes, and some Warhammer 40k and even a few boxes of Necromunda minis and some of the gang tactics cards that can be tough to find.
On to board games there’s a great selection, but even more interestingly they have a used board game section which is a really neat idea for a game store, I think.
They had Shatterpoint minis, Halo Flashpoint, and smattering of Fallout Wasteland Warfare minis which is nice since you don’t always see places carry FOWW.

What really sets this place apart is the staff. They’re genuinely kind, helpful without being pushy, and clearly passionate about games. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just getting started, they’re more than happy to offer recommendations or chat about your favorites.
The overall vibe is super laidback, making it a great spot to take your time and explore. It’s the kind of place that invites you to linger and discover something new.
If I had one suggestion, it would be to expand the selection of gaming cards—especially for trading card games and deck-builders. There’s a decent start, but a few more options would make the collection even better.
All in all, a fantastic spot for any board game lover. Definitely...
