First, the facts. There are four picnic tables, 30 vendor canopies, and a small music stage with performers. Vehicles parked at the entrance offer a variety of things, and there is a long straight walkway down the middle. Dogs are welcome, but the family pooch must be kept away from any table which has a "dogs prohibited" sign in front of it. This past Saturday, a Lion's Club vehicle offered free vision and hearing screenings as well as basic vital signs checks. The Ashland fire engine was a big hit with the little ones (and a few adults). About the farmers. There were only two farms selling produce this week. There were four last week. During the 1970's and 1980's, many small farms in New England were shut down due to cost and income. Most farms in our area have survived by diversifying. They now grow and sell flowers, herbs, or a new variety of produce. The market is still a great place to buy things that are currently in season. Tomatoes were everywhere this past weekend. I bought some, and a watermelon the size of a ten-pin bowling ball. I feel obliged to mention one farm in particular. "Long Life Farm" grows a wide variety of vegetables, fruit, and flowers, some of which are heirlooms. The black potatoes were delicious. Everything they sell is certified organic. I've never been disappointed with anything i bought. The other tables at the market sell everything from t-shirts and jewelry to lemonade and mead. One week there was a winemaker, and an apiary (beekeeper/honey). Down the way a little bit was a farm selling goat soap, and they brought along a mommy goat and her two kids for the five-and-under crowd to pet. If you go this coming Saturday and don't find anything that appeals to you, go the following week. The one thing that is always true - The Ashland Farmers Market is never boring and never the same two...

Show up early if you want best selection of goods from certain stands (like bread...
Read moreOkay market but extremely Ashland focused, if you don’t live there just stop when you see posters since beyond that they’ll ask you if you live there and when you say no, they’ll turn and walk away. Pretty rude honestly. They have some good vendors but it is really difficult to enjoy when the band is so incredibly loud. It is a small space, the amp...
