Overdue as we have been stopping here for a while when visiting the area - Absolutely ADORE this shop. We live about an hour and 20 south and head to Astoria for errands/culture/good food/etc. as much as possible and Gezellig is usually on the list to pop into - we’ve even joked about one of us barrel rolling out of the car while the other drives to grab goodies while on our way through to Washington. The owner is an absolute beyond amazing human bean and is always so friendly, knowledgeable, and has an absolute love for their shop and offerings. When we check out it’s a highlight just to grab with her for a second. The shop is small but mighty and has soooo many items that you won’t find anywhere close by that you might want for your family recipes (we stop in specifically for German / Scandinavian items for when I’m feeling homesick for the Midwest and want to cook great grandmas recipes) and also new fun things to try. The freezer area is amazing and we haven’t tried the cabbage rolls yet but looking forward to it. The Mr. Is also always on the hunt for Dubai chocolate stuff since a random find here this winter (he isn’t on Tik Tok etc and didn’t know what it was until the owner mentioned it when we were checking out and recommended a treat) and is always excited to stop to see what is new there for her inventory bc now he’s hooked :) . Long story longer - an amazing shop, beyond amazing owner, awesome variety of products, and always fun for new or nostalgic items. I personally also loooove the tinned fish area sorted and labeled...

I bought the house made Dungeness crab cakes and they were so delicious. I've had others where you can't hardly taste the crab, but these were so full of crab, and at a great price! I also bought the fresh Spring Chinook (caught that morning) and it was perfect on the barbeque. For desert everyone in the family got to pick out a different treat from a different country and we all shared. It was so much fun! They even had staples like butter and potatoes, so I didn't have to go to another store. I will...
Read moreTHE BEST clam chowder ever. My husband goes up and down the streets in Astoria telling people how delicious it is! He’s a chowder snob and we’ve gone to many places trying the clam chowder and nothing compares to this. Really, go to this wonderful store that has so many other wonderful yummy things besides chowder on the menu AND tons of other hard to find items in the store. You won’t regret going to this gem of a place. Also, friendly, helpful owners make this a destination for us! Oh, and if you like licorice, this is the place to try a sample or two of all kinds. So, if you see a crazy guy walking around Astoria excited about the...
