My review of a well-loved local coffee shop

5/5 stars ⭐️

I'm so glad I stopped by this morning at The Rusty Cup in downtown Astoria, Oregon! This charming coffee shop has been a mainstay in the heart of the city for years, and for good reason. The coffee is always hot and expertly brewed, never bitter or over-extracted. But what really sets The Rusty Cup apart is the warm and welcoming atmosphere, thanks in large part to the owner Brian. He greeted me with a smile and great conversation, making my day so much brighter. Whether you're a local or just visiting, The Rusty Cup is a must-visit for any coffee lover. Highly recommend!

Highlights: Good vibes Delicious breakfast sandwiches 🥪 Location in the heart of Downtown Window counter seating facing the main avenue Perfectly brewed drip coffee Friendly faces

Recommendations: Drip coffee with cinnamon and honey 🍯 Avocado 🥑 toast! Parmesan bagel 🥯 with a generous serving of cream cheese Any pastries made with love by Brian Medford

Would I come back? Over and over!

Located on the corner of Commercial street and 12th street next to “The...

Great coffee . . . Knowledgeable and friendly staff . . .

In an age where "baristas" don't actually know what something like a traditional cappuccino is, these folks not only nailed it but it was some of the most delicious coffee I've ever had anywhere along the Pacific Coast.

UPDATE (10/18/25) - Everything previously stated about this establishment remains true! Best tasting coffee we've found in Astoria thus far . . . AND when ordering something as simple as a traditional cappuccino, they actually know what that is AND how to correctly prepare it! If you haven't tried this place yet, you're willing to get out of your car and walk a short distance to physically go into a coffee shop and order, AND you appreciate good coffee (not just overly flavored milkshakes, hot or cold), then you need to add the Rusty Cup to your...

Stopped in for take-out on our way through Astoria. Location is super convenient, although a little hard to stop at first. I called our order in in advance and they had everything ready in about 10 mins. My husband had the breakfast burrito, which he really enjoyed. I ordered the avocado toast. It was tasty, I only wish there was a little crunchy aspect to it, but it was very good & I'd order it again. We split a lemon ginger scone 10/10. Also, had a decaf dirty chai and it's perfect. The service was friendly & they even opened the door for me when I was leaving, as my hands were full. We will certainly be back to visit! Look out for a video review on my YouTube channel next time we go. I'm adding photos of their current...

As much as I like to have coffee here because it is open late and serve good coffee, if a coffee is not hot enough despite 165°F that was mentioned to me by the bartender, tall guy wearing glasses, it is not hot. The cafe itself is not already welcoming and bartender can’t put smile on his face. I’m the only customer ordering coffee at that time. If the bartender isn’t happy to make the customer satisfied on his simple order, you can close the cafe early. If you’re the owner and bartender who I encountered, please look at the customer service that you provide in this small town. I should have feel good, drinking coffee, but thank you for ruining my afternoon Must be something wrong to be on the top 3 here.

The Rusty Cup is my favorite coffee shop in Astoria. Kristina and her crew offer great coffee, sandwiches and pasties. They also sell The Columbia Bar, which is the most awesome snack on the market. They are located in the heart of downtown right next to the Liberty Theater. They have a small outdoor seating area and a couple tables outside as well. Don't miss this great spot for coffee anytime and breakfast or lunch to go with it.
