I walked into a shop of 4-5 barbers, two to three with a person in chair and another sitting (either waiting or in conversation). My hair is braided so I'm here for a simple shape up and temple fade. 10-15 minutes on average
With it being my first time here, and being flexible with getting a good cut, I asked for the "master barber" or "owner" (oftentimes these are the same person but didn't want to take that for granted).
The working barbers informed me that the owner did not cut hair and were unable to point me in the direction of a master barber. They attempted to point me in the direction or several barbers with empty chairs (that's a red flag where I'm from though), so I told them my plan was to get the best cut possible, based on the type of cut I'd be asking for. Everyone isn't comfortable adding a fade to braided hair. I was then asked "how much are you willing to pay for the best cut? You don't even have any hair" (again--it's braided so I have more hair than everyone but one dreaded fellow in the shop at the time #irony)
They informed me that they felt insulted, whereas I told them "I'm not saying anyone here is a bad barber--I just don't know if they're good at what I'm seeking" and again asked for a master barber for direction. I was informed that they "don't do that". I'm guessing they meant acknowledge a clear hierarchy of skill, which is present in every shop honestly, but I get ones pride getting in the way--which is why I requested to speak with the master barber.
I ended up leaving the shop without a cut. Disappointing but reading the other reviews afterwards, this trend clearly isn't...
Read moreFirst experience was cool there is a red guy in the front that cut my hair and did an excellent job. I tip really well when you do a great job as well. The second time I came the normal guy wasn't there and the barber manager the Darkskinned guy in the very front left chair referred me to one of his rookies in the back who did not have the same skill set as the first barber. He totally messed my hair up and was having conversation about where he was from which was Minneapolis or something. He definitely could not do both talk and cut. The third experience ruined it all together. I spoke w the manager again to make an appointment to come in before I went to work. He said an appointment is not necessary and to come right in. I get there to see the barber I preferred who said that he couldn't because he had an appointment. Mind you this is the guy I asked about on the phone 15 min prior to coming, the one he said I didn't need an appointment for. The manager the darkskinned guy is directly accross from the red guy listening to how upset I was and never intervened to hold himself accountable for both incidents I explained on both visits. These guys do not care about or respect anyone's time. I would never recommend someone to go here nor come...
Read moreI asked for a specific type of cut, which required the barber to be careful over my thinning areas (front of hairline). I asked specifically for my hair to be cut with a 2 guard and to be light handed cutting my hair in those thinning areas. At the conclusion of my haircut, I was able to see not only those instructions were not followed, but I had a head that looked like it was extremely bald in my thinning areas; I had overgrowth that filled in the areas of concern - completely filling in my hairline.
As a customer, you want to leave a haircut feeling confident, not "I can't wait for my hair to grow back in about 2 weeks." You know your haircut isn't going well when other people in the shop are stairing at you when they walk by your chair. I am giving 2 stars because he did a really good job fading, but as a barber you have to understand that customers with thinning hair cannot be cut the same way as someone whose hair is...
