I love Candler Park GC but its present state is nothing short of a disgrace. The course was closed for 3 months this summer because of the awful state of the greens and tees, and amazingly it has reopened in largely WORSE condition. This is potentially a lovely little course with old bones -- built in around 1927 when Bobby Jones was a rising star in Atlanta, and with a number of pretty and thoughtful holes -- no.s 2, 3 and 7 are particular favorites of mine. But the City of Atlanta, or whoever is running the ground staff, has allowed the course to diminish significantly in the last 5-8 years. Most of the greens are now surrounded by a fringe . . . of dirt. A third of the first green and about half the 4th green are just sand. The 5th hole is rapidly losing all the grass on its fairway. Clearly the people running it know very little about seeding and mowing! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE City of Atlanta, PLEASE do something about this. As a lover of golf, it just makes me really sad to see how no-one seems to care...
Read moreFirst time playing here after living and playing in this city my whole life. The course had just been mowed and was a mess with water, all things that I expect from a. City course. We walked and carried our bags and were more than hot and tired when done. I asked Jalyn, who had been really nice when we arrived, for a glass of ice. I was told that it was policy that they don’t give out ice. Then I said well, can I pay for it and he said no we just don’t give it out. I said, so what do you do with the ice machine that is sitting here full of ice? He said we just let it sit there. I only paid $13 to play but have a small standard of service that an old lady dripping with sweat asking for a cup of ice should not be turned away. I was more than angry and vowed to Jalyn not to come back, in which he spouted back something else to me rudely as I burst out the door. Not the type of service I want nor expect. I will...
Read moreFor a public course, in which almost every case, they don't have very much of a budget, but this one taking that into consideration and definitely the cost, it is a great, short 9 hole track! Walking only and a bit hilly, so if you also like a small workout at the same time this one is definitely for you! Also with 360° views of the neighborhood, you can see the changes this neighborhood is undergoing. From old to new, some really bad choices, some good and then some really nicely done! So if you are someone thinking of doing something like that, you can also see what not to do and what you could do as well. I played for the first time last night and I...
