i love by george, both the s. congress and n. lamar locations. there is definitely a difference- the by george on s. congress seems to cater more to a younger, hipper clientele, carrying brands like parker, nsf, and french connection, while the by george on n. lamar carries higher-end, more sophisticated brands like lanvin, alexander wang, helmut lang, and rag & bone. vary your shopping accordingly depending on what you're looking for, but both locations stock carefully curated collections of designer clothing and constantly have new arrivals. it isn't cheap, of course, but it is designer clothing... not sure what some other reviewers expected. my favorite part of shopping at both locations is the extremely helpful, thoughtful staff. they actually pay attention to your style and are very attentive if you are looking for an outfit or item for a specific event. and they remember me when i come back! (keep in mind i'm 25 and don't dress like i have money.) there's a reason by george is one of the top boutiques in the country. if you are looking for well-fitting, high-quality clothing in austin, there's no better...
Read moreHere's an experience where the sales clerk assumed she was better than her clients and refused to provide service in a respectful manner. My friend and I finished happy hour and stopped by, looking for an outfit for an out-of-country trip, and the women who greeted us were kind--save for the elderly woman with red hair and glasses.
My friend was trying on clothes and this woman proceeded to whip open the curtains to the changing room and expose my friend, and barked if we were okay. Shocked, I closed the curtains and told her we were fine. She obviously didn't like that I was enforcing boundaries and she again violated us, whipping open the curtains for the store to see and proceeded to call us "girls."
"Girls" do not make $800-1200 purchases and this type of micro-aggression is gross. If you cannot treat a person who has darker skin than you with dignity, then you might not want to work with people in general. The other staff were nice, and of a generation who understands that racism isn't...
Read moreThis is a high end - low service boutique store . Shop at your own risk and please be sure you have an alternative method of getting your money back (i.e back up resale /consignment shop to sell to) in case you change your mind or the items don’t fit . I once drove from Dallas to Austin to shop there .. found a handbag I thought I liked and attempted to return it within an hour of purchasing it and was told I could not . I challenge stores like Kickplate and other high end boutiques to step up their game in selections and service - just a tiny bit - doesn’t take much to be better than this store. It’s arrogant and takes its precious clients for granted . Would someone please open a boutique in Austin with great selections , courteous and top notch stylists - puts client retention and relationships at the top of their priority list, PLEASE !!! I’d be the first in line to shop at...
